It really depends on his unit, what their mission is, what their personnel levels are currently at (and what your fiance's MOS is), and how long they have left in their deployment. The unit I eventually went to was deployed to Iraq for OIF 1, while I was graduating Basic Training and heading out to AIT for the next four months. By the time I finally got to my unit's rear detachment (and after a two-week vacation at home), my unit had been deployed for about five months or so. I was told I was going to be sent down to Iraq to join them the very day I arrived at my unit and was inprocessing with my unit's rear detachment. My unit's rear detachment was made up almost entirely of pregnant women, injured/permanent profile people, new arrivals like me who were waiting to get our orders and date to fly, and people ETSing/PCSing out of the unit (back in the days before the Army started stop-lossing everyone in sight and actually let people come back from deployment early so that they could ETS/PCS on time). I was fortunate enough to have six weeks between the time I arrived at my new unit to the time I was deployed, but that was unusual; most newbies were sent down with 2-4 weeks of arrival. I had about a month with my wife before being deployed. Our unit was also the very first to be extended; we were held back an additional 3 months to stay in Iraq on the very day we were due to leave.
I don't mean to make things seem worse for you, but you need to face the reality of this if your fiance's unit is already deployed. Contact his unit's rear detachment, and ask. It's entirely possible that they may keep him in the Rear-D with them and not deploy him... but it all depends on his unit's need and how long they have left. Chances are that he should at least have some time off after graduating AIT, at least... I had 2 weeks.

Life's not fair, get used to it. When you join the military you can't say "I didn't think they would deploy me" - you know that going in even if it is the reserves. Start preparing now since you've been served with orders already. I don't know what your looking for for "factual" information, they can't fire you from your job because your leaving so that's good. The military has the right to deploy you after you are trained, maybe see if you can take a 2 week leave or something between AIT and deploying - they may be able to work that out. Now-a-days it doesn't seem like anyone is active and reserve, feels like all active. Sorry for your situation but at least you won't be over there as long as your unit is since they leave when your still in school. Cherish the time you have here and I'm sure you can get your family to come down/over to AIT so you can see them before you leave.

it's just Nov 13. He'll find out about 3=4 days before he's through with AIT.
It is quite possible they won''t even have anything by then.Reservists are a low priority.
he could spend time in "holdover company' while he waits for his orders. That is essentially the Military's version of a temp agency. you spend your time doing extra assignments, some might be quite pleasant, while others may be "busy work,"
I spent a month there awaiting orders. really, it wasn't bad at all.

Maybe and maybe not. If so, he'd probably have been told already.
That said, while it's possible, it's not likely. No one is so hard up for one more private that they've been doing that.
More likley, he'll simply join his unit's rear detachment and work with them until the rest of the unit gets home.

it;s possible he could report and be told to immediately get ready to join the unit. It's also possible they could let him stay at home a little while before shipping him out. or they may not ship him out at all. (highly doubtful)
