I heard that tourists aren't allowed in it anymore because of damage. Is this true? When I say 'go in it' what I mean is actually being able to observe from inside the head.

Yes, you can no longer go to the head or the torch, but you can go to the top of the Pedestal.

the inside of the Statue of Liberty was reopened in 2004, but only up to the hem. there were discussions started by a Member of Congress from New York this summer about getting the National Park Service to reopen public access to the crown. the arm and the torch will remain permanently closed in any case.

Yes. I do not recommend going in December, like I did. It was so freezing cold, being out on the water, with the wind and humidity. Best to visit when the weather is better.

u can only go up to the base. the crown is still closed since 9/11. congressman weiner (yes that is his last name) has been trying to get the crown open for over a year now.
