ol roy is a very low quality dog food..so low in fact it should be recalled for that alone, but yes earlier this summer there was a recall on the dry food.....now i dont run out and find specialty foods or anything for my dog, i live in the middle of nowhere so i DO feed the stuff off the wal mart shelf and i wont even feed mine ol roy.i feed mine pedigree and they both do just fine.i get the coat and hair formula because my lil shih tzu needs all the help she can get in the hair department lol.if you give your underweight dog the wet pedigree mixed with dry pedigree it will pick up weight just fine, without having to run all over the place to find dog food (it would be a minimum of a 2 hour drive from here to get any of the stuff they talk about on here, there is just no place to buy it) or paying an arm and a leg for it. i hope this helps even though i know im going to get alot of flak for it lol :)

Ol Roy *shiver* I used Ole Roy once. Before I considered home cooking. We were desperate financially for about a month or two. My poor Gwyn, she had been used to Blue Buffalo and I had to down grade to Ole Roy under $5 dollars for like a 20 lb bag. I didn't really know better at the time. She got this bald spot the size of an egg on her coat. She had no energy. She was pathetic.
Thank God I finally got a good job at a vet and she gave me a big bag of Pro Plan for Christmas. The spot was still there, but Gwyn seemed to be feeling better. When that bag was almost out, I picked up Blue again. Within 3 weeks, the spot was gone.
In short, no, Ol' Roy isn't a very good food. If Wal-Mart is all you have around, try Purina One at least or Iams. They are okay, not great, but okay.
Blue Buffalo is the best food sold at PetsMart. Petco has a few more good brands like Solid Gold and Natural Balance.
If we ever get in that dire straights financially again, I'm not sure what I'll do. My family was eating Ramen, cabbage, and bean sprouts most meals back then so home cooking wouldn't really be an option.

Seeing as pretty much nobody else answered your question, yes, it has been recalled. Several times, I think. I know for a fact that the dry dog food has been recalled at least twice, but if you feed your dog Ol' Roy moist dog food, it's probably not safe to feed it even though it may not have been recalled. Since the dry dog food and moist dog food are often made in the same factory/on the same plants and have a lot of the same ingredients, it's not wise to continue to feed a low quality dog food that has been recalled.
If you're concerned about dog food but can't pay the price of high quality dog food, I reccommend Kirkland dog food. It's a Costco brand, and although most grocery/well known store brand dog foods are crap, Kirkland dog food is surprisingly good. It's not the best dog food out there, but it's way better than Iams and Eukanuba and doesn't cost that much. The ingredients are pretty decent, named meat in the top ingredients, not too many fillers and other healthy ingredients.

My guess would be the recall would be on moist food, but not necessarily. And no, it is not good food. My dogs got it temporarily because I was freaking broke, but as soon as I could afford better food, I got them better food. I suggest you do the same. Pretty much any food is an improvement over that. You don't have to go to the highest quality (which, like everything else you are paying for reputation once you pass a certain price level and it isn't any better than something a few dollars cheaper), but do move up from ol roy.

It is an absolutely horrible food!! And yes it was on the recall list. This food has no value to a dog..it is so full of cheap fillers, by products, chemicals, etc.
It is not a good food to feed ANY dog let alone an underweight dog.
Find a good food with no corn, wheat, soy or by products..some good choices:
Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers Soul, Innova, Solid Gold just to name a few.

Ol Roy is the worst dog food you could possibly give your dog.
Go to a Pet Supplies Plus store in your area. They have great dog foods - look at Innova, Canidae, etc.

Ol' Roy is like the McDonald's of dog food - McCrap...
Switch to a high quality food such as Royal Canin or Canidae for all stages.

God I PRAY that they call Ol' Roy!
That crap has killed more dogs tahn Euthanasia. Don't take my word for it call vets and breeders for professional opinions. If there is a dog food that can be voted worst in America Ol ROy would win!
Please DO NOT feed this crap to your dog!
As far as a good food goes... In dog food just keep in mind that you get what you pay for. You don't have to buy the "Best" if you can't afford it but make sue that you get the best that you CAN afford.
Good luck to you!

This food is so bad,ask any Vet.I wouldn't feed it to the Squirrels in my neighborhood ,let alone my Dog.try Purina One,I totally trust their products, its not too expensive and is readily available almost anywhere. To wean your dog from the old,you must slowly over a weeks time add more and more of the new dog food, and supplement with white Rice to help his stomache and add weight to him.
