if you are serious about keeping her and working with her, you will need to hire a professional animal behaviorist/trainer. otherwise, she really is just a liability/lawsuit waiting to happen. best of luck. see link for tips on how to choose a good trainer.

First off, it is comforting to know that your dog is watching out for you, but VERY bad that he/she has taken it to the point that you could end up in both criminal and civil courts.
If she has not had obedience training, then both of you need to get into a class ASAP. This will begin to establish as you the 'alpha dog'... the one in control. It will also begin to desensitize her to other people.
You may also wish to 'set her up' with your male friends. They can offer treats while gradually warming up to her.
As to going after cars, it sounds as though she may be a herding breed (Sheltie, etc.). Those dogs love to herd anything with wheels. Depending on how strong the herding instinct is, you may never completely break her of it and will need to keep her on a lead However, obedience training will go a long way in gaining control over her.

Put a choke chain on the dog and take it out in public with a leash that you can be comfortable with, leather preferred. When the dog gets out of sorts, jerk, gently on the choke chain and let it know that you are in control. Also, you can take it to a bike path and walk along there and jerk, gently on the choke chain any time you think that it is going for a bicycle or roller skater. This may help solve your problem. Guys need to be forthright with the dog and let it know that they are not afraid of it. Not too close at first because dogs have space also. Just a little at a time.

Besides obedience you need to work on desensitizing and counter conditioning your dog to the things that bother it. It takes time and training. You need to learn about triggers & thresholds. Protective dogs are often scared. Visit

You deal with aggressive behavior and fear the same way. Read Dogs Are From Neptune.

if it was me id give it to the pound.. because,if she was to bite or hurt somebody badly especially a child you are going to be in big trouble!! besides that I'm not sure, have you tried a shock colllar?? my mom uses them to keep her dogs from chasing cars and it works for them.. I know it sounds bad but would you rather give it a little shock or have it get ran over??they make them for dogs so im sure it wouldn't hurt it.. its just a suggestion?? good luck :)

some dogs are mean regardless, try training it everyday using positive reinforcement, if your dog is a liability i would isolate her for your own good, try hiring a very highly trained handler that deals with disobedient and mean dogs , best of luck
