I'm curious because I notice a lot more damages on front bumpers than on rear bumpers.

It doesn't matter.
What you are seeing is the plastic skin, not the actual bumper.
And those are thinner than you would believe!
They used to be thick, to withstand a hit.
More than 20 years ago, they developed "shock absorbing" bumpers. These have mounts that crush, reducing the impact to the rest of the car.

Besides, the real reason you see more front damage is that people run into things a lot more than they back into them.
