The days in Genesis are clearly just general time frames, like a day being a unit of completeness. They could have been a really long time.
Yes, a day to god is like 1000 years... and some prophecies are known by that time frame in their use of "day". But obviously the Genesis account uses the term more loosely as being a completed time period like a day.
So, was it thousands, perhaps millions of years... could be.
The silly, hard headed, never admit you are clearly and obviously mistaken "christians" do a real dis-service to honest hearted ones who might look at the scriptures. By their insisting on the clearly wrong 24 hour 'day' scenario, they turn off thinking people to the scriptures.
Also, their insistence that the earth is ~ 6000 year old is idiotic. Genesis beginning with 'in the beginning'. That certainly could have been millions of years ago.

Moreover, if the sun suddenly appeared the earth would have instantly starting moving directly toward it lol.
Anyway you are undoubtedly going to get the response "a thousand years is like a day to the lord"; someone quoting 2 Peter 3:8 ("But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."). What they neglect to do is actually reasearch the passage and see Peter is quoting Psalm 9:40 ("For a thousand years in thy sight Are but as yesterday when it is past, And as a watch in the night.")
Many drop or forget to add that "And as a watch in the night" bit at the end, because that would render their argument nonsensical. They would also have to equate a thousand years to a watch at night.
Furthermore, the Hebrew word for 'day' (yom) when combined with an ordinal number (i.e. first day, second day, etc.) is NEVER ONCE translated to mean anything other than a literal 24-hour day anywhere else in the Bible.

1000 yrs. Read 2nd Peter 3:8 . It says , " I don't want you to be ignorant as the heathen (unbelievers) are ignorant of this one fact. That one day of/to the Lord is as a thousand years of man. And of course Dashes is wrong . keeping in mind the description given in 2nd Peter wouldn't that be a short shift as far as the Lord is concerned. And all the peoples / races that were created in Genesis were all created at once in a 24 hr period ? And if that is the case then when did God decide to start having man procreate. Why didn't he just create billions of people in those 24 hrs and be done with it. Then he wouldn't have to tell us to be fruitful and multiply. Your misinterpretation of scripture just won't wash. BUBBI I agree that there are Christians that think the world is 6000 yrs old but then again it is the Christians that are uneducated in the word of God. Not all of us , which is the way you make it sound.

Christ may have been thelight of the world before the sun, moon, and stars were created as we know them presently. How long were days 1,2, and 3? Unknown; but they do not have to be '24 hours each!!!
Another biblical example of (day and night) not being necessarily being 24 hours total. Christ's death. He died; but clock time from 'death' to resurrection abour 39 hours (assuming 6 PM sunset, 6 AM sunrise).
