Lifting the leg while peeing is a sign of dominance and marking territory. If your pup is not the dominant type dog he may not lift his leg. Possibly as he grows older he will feel more "incharge" and start lifting his leg. Nothing is wrong with him if he just decides to keep squatting, he's just not feeling like the dominant one.

This is, by no means, an educated response- it's simply a comment based on my experiences.
I work at a doggy daycare and own a pet sitting business so I come in contact with my share of dogs. I've noticed, within the past year, that 90% of the males I've cared for squat when they pee- regardless of whether or not they're intact and at what age they were neutered. If I didn't know better, I'd say it's a new trend, since so few lift their legs.
However, it's probably just that most of the dogs I come in contact with don't have much regard for territory and are generally very submissive.

I have a neutered male, he's almost 6yrs old. He squats most of the time but will lift his leg.
What I've noticed is he's more inclined to lift his leg if I take him out of for a walk or to the park. He'll do it, take him outside of "his" area and see. If he doesn't he may still be too young..........but he will I betcha!

Yes. some fellas can take alot longer than others. Usually by 6 mo to 1 yr. Had one that was a sissy till 1 1/2 years. Have had females that lifted their leg like males..Go figure.

yes and no lifting the leg is a sign of dominance, if you get another mal edog he quiet possibly could lift his leg, or even a more dominate Female, but it just depends on the dog :) and since he was spayed at a good age, the testeseron shoudlnt have kicked in Just yet... though even with some dogs even when you neuter them at a later date they still dont lift there leg.

All of my males have mostly squatted to pee. Every once in a while if he smells something to his liking he will lift a little but thats about it.

After being 'raised' by quite a few dogs, I've observed that neutered males will do either. If there is something 'vertical' for them to urinate on, they will. If there isn't, and they just gotta go, they'll squat. The desire to mark territory may not be there, but the mechanics are.

YES he WILL!
My rescued Lab was 8-9 mths. old when I got him neutered, he was only squatting then.
He's now 10 yrs. old. and if I remember right started to lift leg just after 1 yr. old (give or take few wks.).
However, I preferred it when he squatted like my female dogs!
