Genesis Chapter 5 describes the genealogy of Adam to Noah. If one takes each name in the order it is listed and translates the actual meaning of each name (e.g. Adam comes from a word meaning "mankind"), it is astounding that the resulting statement would be as follows: “Man is appointed to mortality (or weakness) and sorrow. The Blessed God shall come down (or descend), teaching (or discipling). And His death shall bring the despairing grace and comfort.”

Here is the actual breakdown of names / meanings:

Adam = mankind
Seth = appointed
Enosh = weak / mortal
Kenan = sorrow
Mahalalel = the blessed god
Jarod = shall come down…shall descend
Enoch = discipling / teaching
Methuselal = his death shall bring (from muth meaning “death” and shalach “to send forth”)
Lamech = the despairing
Noah = grace and comfort

Incidentally, the first sentence here is perhaps best described by Romans 8:20-21..."For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God."

The hidden mysteries of God. I can't help but wonder if we aren't seeing the BRIGHTNESS of His coming thru our enlightenment in these last days. Romans 1:20, tells us we can see the invisible things of God thru the things He created, and just before the sun rises, we can see light, which gets brighter and brighter until the sun appears. Just my thoughts. Thanks. Great study.

It's cute, but it relies on torturing the meanings and grammar of the words, as well as the sentence's grammar and word order, in some cases effectively reversing the meaning of the words.

Translating into English is part of the game, because words in Hebrew have built into them what part of speech they are as well as, e.g., for verbs, the person, gender, tense and active/passive mood. In English almost none of this is in the word, so, for example "appointed" can be morphed into a passive whereas it is clearly an active verb in the text. Also, in Hebrew word order is important, and different from English.

Treating the words as they are, without re-writing them or inventing grammar, those names generate a meaningless jumble.

I love that so much I have it posted to my blog! When I first read the it BLEW my mind! Have you read the book that's from? It's from "Cosmic Codes" by Chuck Missler. It's also in another of his books, also excellent, called "Learn the Bible in 24 Hours" it's kind of a narrative overview of the Bible so that you get the story of the Bible in very plain language. They're both excellent, and I highly recommend! :)

Another thing that points to Christ's sacrifice for us. I've heard of this before and I find it pretty cool.
