Alcoholism is a disease and there are no definite patterns to the amount of drink that an alcoholic might take. Some need only one or two drinks to satisfy the problem, while others need a lot more. A common myth is that a person who has a drink or two almost everyday is an alcoholic but this is not always the case. Secret drinking is a real giveaway but it can be very difficult to catch the person drinking.

There is no set pattern for how often an alcoholic will drink.
Alcoholism:
"A chronic disorder characterized by dependence on alcohol, repeated excessive use of alcoholic beverages, the development of withdrawal symptoms on reducing or ceasing intake, morbidity that may include cirrhosis of the liver, and decreased ability to function socially and vocationally."
An alcoholic is someone whose drinking interferes with their social and work lives. Who needs to have alcohol to make it through something, be it work, their day, or something as simple as public gatherings. An alcoholic may not drink for a considerable amount of time but once their trigger happens the go to the bottle.

My uncle is an alcoholic, and has been for years. he lost his wife, daughter and job due to it.
i pass him every morning at 8:45am when im walking my kids to school, and he is on his way home from the corner shop with carrier bags full of cheap cider and cans of cheapest lager.
he has been told he will not see easter if he doesnt stop, but takes no notice. I think its sad,but weve all tried to help, and he doesnt want it. last christmas, other STUPID family members bought him whisky, cans, etc and by boxing day afternoon he was on life support machine. this is an example of a full-blown alcoholic.
In regard to question, i suppose anyone who drinks too much, or too often, or both combined, can be classed an alcoholic.

there isnt a set pattern for alcholics, there are different types of alcholics, if your concerned then they probly have a problem, people associate alcholics with som1 who drinks from first thing in the morning till they collapse at night, but you are classed as an alcholic if you drink a few pints after work each night, an alcholic is som1 who needs a drink if it be 2 glasses a night or constantly drink while awake, and even if they have t drink on a weekend.
