My boyfreind has an ignition interlock in his car. I am borrowing while I'm out of town. Its pretty simple to use, but I have a cocktail thing going in in a week. I am not a big drinker, but usually will have a glass of wine that will last me an hour to get through. I know I will obviously be under the legal limit, but I don't want to ruin his reading record by it showing up over .02 (won't start if it over that). So what will help so I can plan this out? How long should I wait to try and start it? 1 hour after the glass of wine? 2 hours? Will lots of water after I drink my glass of wine help or hurt it? By the way, my car's transmission is out, thats why I can't drive mine.

He keeps telling me its going to be fine and its no big deal as long as I only have 1 and wait an hour before I leave. The LEGAL limit is .08 by the way, the device won't start if its over .02. I forgot to mention with this area, its not feasible to take a taxi. And as far as a friend, I will be out of town.

It takes approximately one hour for each drink to be eliminated from the average male/female. Wait as long a possible after drinking before driving to give the alcohol enough time to be eliminated from the blood stream.
A lot can depend on your size, how much you eat and what type of alcohol.
I would recommend if you have ONE glass of wine make sure you eat something and wait to drive for 1-1 1/2 hrs after you finished the wine to drive. Especially since you don't drink that much... The alcohol may effect you more.

I wouldn't use his car or any. for what ever reason he has this devise it may back fire and come back to haunt him.
if he's on probation that will violate it no matter who uses the car, those devises need to be reset every month or two.
your best option is a cab or take a friend that does not drink with you.

Wait....... his car doesn't start if over the legal limit? THATS THE AWESOMEST INVENTION EVER PLEASE LINK ME TO WHERE I CAN READ ABOUT OR PURCHASE THIS TECHNOLOGY.
To answer your question, it depends on body weight, whats in your stomach, how fast you drink, how tall you are, everything. However, it's about an hour to filter out a drink, but don't take chances on just that fact, just a thought.
