No, you really don't want to know. My bio teacher used to work in the factory where they package the hostess snacks... if the government knew what they were masking as real food, there would be an uproar and the american public would be suing left and right.

And on top of the preservatives, they also manage to contain more animal fat than most animals. Neat trick, that. Anyhow... those little chocolate chip mini-muffins totally rock. Second choice, ho-hos... third choice, ding-dongs.... Okay...who exactly NAMED these things, anyway? And would the Hostess brand still be a household name if they'd neglected to hire that person?

TWINKIES FILLING
1/4 lb. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. granulated sugar
5 1/3 oz. Pet evaporated milk
2 tsp. vanilla
Beat the mixture without stopping for 30 minutes. Sufficient to fill 24 Twinkie cakes.

Let me tell you, the "cream filling" doesn't contain an ounce of cream in it! Take a look at the list of ingrediants and what you'll find is oil, or shortening, fat, and fillers. If you love the things (like I do!) then you just eat and enjoy and don't indulge very often!
