I'm getting my braces off next month and I am so nervous. Not so nervous about the brackets because they have accidentally taken those off while tightning them and it didn't hurt, but I'm nervous about the molar bands. How do they take them off? I go back in 3 weeks to get the bands taken off, a few brackets and to get impressions done and then I go back 2 weeks after that to get the rest of the hardware off and to get my retainer. How do they take impressions with the braces still on, sounds kind of stupid, wouldn't they just come off with the impressions?

getting the back bands off was about as painful as having them put on. it was a big pressure for a few moment, then it came off. it was so for a little while and felt odd with the glue still on it. as another person mentioned, they use this odd contraption that looks like a paper hole punch. it just pops it right off.

the mold for the retainer has nothing to do with the visible side of your teeth. so it doesn't matter if you have the braces on or not. they are taking a cast of the roof of your mouth, and the curve of your teeth.

I had braces for nearly two years. You are right taking the brackets off doesn't really hurt at all. The molar bands are probably the worst part but that said there wasn't really any pain at all just tugging so of feeling. I was so excited to get them off I didn't really care. Not sure how they do the impressions with bits still on. They did mine after it was all off but I guess it is just different dentists and they know what they are doing. Keep your teeth clean and wear your retainer as the dentist tells you. Congrats on surviving braces!
P.S. My teeth (and other people I have talked to say) felt really 'slimy' for the first day or so. I think it is because they are so smooth and when you run your tongue anywhere near your teeth there is no metal any more.
Good Luck

I had my braces on for 8 yrs!

I believe they used a tool that looks like a paper puncher to rip it off your teeth ouch I know. There is no real pain but maybe some scrapping of the teeth. Your teeth may have little squares on it. Its because of the tarter. Your parents should make you an appointment to get your teeth clean also.

Impressions is where they mold your mouth so they can fit you for a retainer.
