I cant imagine eating 5-6 small meals per day. However I am willing to try just about anything (other than drugs) to lose this extra 60lbs that I have been carrying for several years now.

When they say you need to eat 5-6 small meals, does that more or less mean 5-6 small snack like meals?

For example, yesterday
for breakfast I had 8oz of low fat yogurt.
about 3 hours later I had a mixture of unsalted peanuts and organic dried cranberries that I made. (1/3 cup peanuts, 1/3 cup dried cranberries).
About 2-3 hours after that I had an orange.
And about 3 hours after that I had a tomato basil salad (With 2 cut up tomatoes and a few basil leaves, in some seasoned rice vinegar)
And the last thing I ate (3 hours before I went to bed, and 2 hours after my tomato salad) I had a small apple which I dipped in 1table spoon of peantubutter.

Is this what they mean when they say eat small meals?? Am I doing this right??

Today for breakfast I had 1 cup of multi-grain cheerios with 1/2 cup of 1% milk.

About 1/2 cup of peas (I steamed frozen peas, no seasonings. I know it sounds weird but i love them)

And my peanut/cranberry mixture.

For dinner tonight I am going out for my 3rd year anavercery with my fiance. We are going to a steak house and I am planning on getting a small salad (with an oil based dressing) and an 8oz steak.

I dont eat a lot of meat - ever. I grew up in a home with vegetarians. I eat chicken maybe once a week, and today will be the first time that I am going to eat red meat in over a month. I know that protein is an important part of a diet. I usually get my protein from nuts (not crazy about meat/beans/dairy)

The diet sounds perfect. Just make sure you are getting a balanced mix. Add 8 to 10 12-oz glasses of water daily and a good exercize regime and you have the perfect road for weight/fat loss. Remember though that if you start working out, muscle weighs more than fat. You might see a slight increase on the scales but you will lose inches and your body will be in better shape.

It sounds like you're eating good things, but I'm not a dietician. You could always ask your doctor to make sure you're not missing anything vital.

I used to work with someone years ago who ate several small meals a day instead of three larger meals a day. She did it to lose weight as well. By the time I knew her, she was had lost the weight, but kept up the small meals to maintain it. It did work for her.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

You're talking about the diabetic diet, which is endorsed by the American Diabetes Association. Basically, it is eating the food pyramid over the course of the day. Because you're eating frequently, your metabolism is working constantly, rather than off and on, so you are continually processing the food you've eaten.

The servings for the different categories are as follows

Carbohydrates: 15 carbohydrates (1 slice of bread, 1/2-3/4 cup of cereal, 1/2 cup of pasta, 1 small potato, etc.--check your labels to see which foods make up 15 carbs)

Fruit--one piece (two if it's a small type of fruit), 17 grapes, 1/3-1/2 cup of juice, or 9 cherries

Milk--8 oz. of milk or yogurt (cheese gets counted as a meat, unfortunately)

Meat--one ounce (1" square of cheese = 1 oz., 3 oz. of meat is about the size of a deck of cards, and 4 oz. is about the size of the palm of your hand)

Fat--6 grams (1 pat of butter or 1 tablespoon of regular salad dressing)

Vegetables--1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked

My dietician recommended the following:

Breakfast--2 carbohydrates, 1 fruit, 1 milk (cereal with milk and fruit is good here)

Mid-Morning Snack--1 fruit

Lunch--3 oz. meat, 2 vegetables, 2 carbohydrates, 1 fat (a deli sandwich and a salad with dressing is good here)

Mid-Afternoon Snack--1 fruit, 1 milk

Supper--4 oz. meat, 2 vegetables, 2 carbohydrates, and 2 fats

Bedtime Snack--1 carbohydrate, 1 milk (a small cookie and milk is good here, or Weight Watchers makes some great snack bars that are each 1 serving of carbohydrates).

If you get hungry, there are free foods, too--you can have 1 cup of sugar free pudding or sugar free candy free up to 3 times daily, and all the diet soda, boullion, sugar free Jello, herbs, and spices you can hold. And nuts count as fat (17 peanuts, 2 walnuts, or 4 pecans per serving), but since they're so good for you, my dietician told me I could have an extra fat every day if one of them was nuts.

This is not just for diabetics. Even though I started it because I'm diabetic, I've never lost as much weight as I did when I stuck to this. But don't expect the weight to just melt away, either--it's best for you, and you're more likely to keep the weight off, if you lose 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week.
