Why is she a 'friend'? Why not a FRIEND?

How 'bout this. Have her tell her mom she's gay. Then, when her mom recovers, she can say "Oh just kidding, I'm Wiccan!"....By the way, this isn't a startling question.

Ah, coming out of the "broom closet". Haha. Well there are many approaches you can take. But first, is your "friend" sure (s)he is ready to tell mom? If this person is not comfortable enough with telling their mom, then dont. Eventually you might be. (I've been Pagan for awhile and am even head of a Pagan group, but I still havent told my whole family.. but I wear a pentagram and other things so they might have a clue)
So if you are ready to tell mom, you might want to take it slow. You could write out some facts about Wicca explaining what it is about (if your mom doesnt know). Sit your mom down and tell her you have chosen your own religious path and give her the paper then tell her to freely ask you questions. You could also take your mom to a ceremony or hold your own private one at home with your mom. Also if you have other Wiccan/Pagan friends, she could meet them to see how normal they are. Also remind her that even if you are Wiccan, you can still celebrate her religion's holidays.

Good luck! And if you have any questions I will gladly help or find some Wiccans in my group :)

When I was Wiccan (in the late 80's and early 90's), I told my mom and only then found out that Mom had two decks of tarot cards she kept since the 1960's and had joined a sort of spiritual 'group.' Somehow, she had just never told *me!* Parents will sometimes surprise you.

Why should she tell anyone about her belief system. It's her choice to make. If she wants to tell her mother that she's of the Wiccan faith than she should begin by making sure that the mother understands the idea of choosing one's religion. If mom can't get past that idea than don't proceed any further. PEACE!

She should just tell her.
I was Christian between the ages of 5 and 12 and then I decided to go along with my dad for awhile..which was the Wiccan religion, and well, my grandparents were pretty hardcore Christian and I told them, of course they were disappointed for awhile, but they got over it.
Later though by the time I was 14 I decided that the idea of God's/Goddesses is next to impossible-very illogical in my opinion, and so I went to Atheism, and I told them, they were even more disappointed, but they forgave me, and they still pray for me..(dramatic eye roll anyone) and well if her mom is anything like them hen she should be fine just to tell her, besides, if she feels it's right her mom should be happy for her, happy that she found something to believe in.

If your friend believes that the Wiccan religion is fine and harmless then it wouldn't be a problem to tell her parents. Since she's nervous about telling her parents this suggests that deep down she knows she doing the wrong thing.

I have been a Pagan for 20 years. Paganism is a religion of nature, in other words we revere Nature. Pagans see the divine as immanent in the whole of life and the universe; in every tree, plant, animal and object, man and woman and in the dark side of life as much as in the light. Pagans live their lives attuned to the cycles of Nature, the seasons, life and death.

There is nothing to be ashamed about. She should tell here mother what she believes. As a mother, I would not want my children to feel they could not talk to me about anything, Tell her to print off literature or anything that she can find describing her beliefs so that her mother will not think that she is getting into something "evil" because there are so many people who do not truly understand Paganism.

Good Luck and Brightest Blessings

Wiccanism and Paganism are just covers for Satan worship.
I know that you do not think that you are getting into something very evil and bad, but Satan is a master of disguises, and he packages his evil poison in many very innocent looking and highly attractive costumes !!! The devil uses any thing he can to get people to take their eyes off of the only one that can save you....Jesus Christ !!!
And before you go and give me thumbs down for this answer,
please remember, I am NOT judging OR condemning anyone...I ONLY want to inform you that Wiccanism & Paganism ARE evil and satanic in a cutely disguised package.........
Please Be Very Careful !!!

Does she have to mention it?

It may do considerable harm to their relationship especially if the Mom is a fundamentalist Christian - she would be wanting to call in the exorcist!

Not that there is anything particularly evil about Wicca - a lot of people have the wrong idea and get mental pictures of Satanic Black Masses with hands of glory candles burning on altars and such.
