flu shots don't usually cause the flu. If this is the first flu shot you have ever received you could have short term flu symptoms. Remember it takes 2 weeks for the flu shot to be fully effective.

It is 100% totally IMPOSSIBLE to get the flu from the flu shot. You can get the flu from the intra-nasal flu vaccine, because it is a live version of the vaccine, but not from the flu shot.
Many people still get the flu after getting a flu shot though. The main reason for this is that it takes about 2 weeks after getting the shot for your immune system to be fully active against the virus. If you come into contact with the virus in that 2 week period, you can still get the flu.
Also, the flu shot only offers protection against certain strains of the virus. A group of experts each year determine which strains are the most problematic for that flu season, and the vaccine is formulated around their decisions. If you are exposed to a different strain of the virus, you won't necessarily be protected.
Sorry to hear that you are sick, but I can tell you for sure that it wasn't caused by the shot.

Possibly, we have 3 diabetics and an asthmatic in our office at work (unhealthy bunch and we work in the NHS lol) - we all had the flu jab this year and I was the only one to react to it, the reaction started about 8 hours after the vaccination, I am diabetic and could not take my meds for 2 days as felt so sick that I couldn't eat a thing, achey, feverish and exhausted, then after 3 days my arm swelled up at the injection site and I couldn't hardly move it for 2 days, I went to show the Doctor and they said I'd had a reaction which is rare but possible. They still said it was better to have it done than not as the flu would be more dangerous to me than a reaction to the jab. Reactions are usually short lived and so I've been told by my surgery, proper flu will knock you off your feet for a good fortnight and for people with certain medical conditions it can mean admission to hospital so even though it wasn't nice to have a reaction, I'm still happy I had it done.

First let me say I hate flu shots and I don't get them. They are shooting you for last year's flu and may not even cover you for this year's flu. Plus I don't like the preservative they use. And some people will have a reaction to the shot that seems like the flu. However, you may have already been exposed and coming down with the flu before you got the shot and they are not related.
You need to eat a good diet and keep your immune system strong and you won't catch the flu and if you do it will be very mild because your body will fight it. fruits and veggies and no fast food, no processed foods, no dairy. nothing fried... are a good start. I haven't had any flu (over 6 years) since I changed my diet and started taking Juice Plus+ a whole food nutritional supplement made from fresh vine ripe fruits and veggies. www.juiceplus.com/+Lb53116

The shot is made with a dead virus. It does not cover every type of flu, just the worst ones they could get into a vaccine. You could have already caught it before getting the shot also. The shot does not give you the flu. What you describe as symptoms could be a cold or any number of things. Go see your Dr. so you can get relief & feel better. WebMD has good info if you want to know more. Sorry you feel so crummy. Get better.

It is possible for a person to have a reaction to the flu shot. From the symptoms described, seems as though you have it. Get plenty of rest, drink a huge amount of fluids, keep on any medication prescribed. Don't worry. The ailment has to take its course same as a head cold.

this could most def be the cause of your illness. It just happened to me when i got the viral meningitious shot. Sometimes when you get the vaccine if you have also come in contact with the germ in other ways than the shot it becomes too much for the body to handle and you wind up getting sick...however it is usually less severe and shorter than illness usually. see your doctor
