I am a freemason and I will help...
Freemasonry is a social fraternity that studies morality through ritual, symbol and allegory. Its main tenets are faith, hope and charity - and it provides over $2 billion per year in charity.
It is not evil, you cannot be a freemason if you worship satan. There is an incredible amount of false claims about freemasonry with regard to satan worship and conspiracy theory that is propogated by a very small number of people. It has all been proven to be false many times.
You must believe in a supreme being (God) to be a freemason
It is not a "cult" either in the mondern, negative sense of a brain washing, controlled society...
I wish I had a nickel for each time I had to answer this question, I could retire and have enough money to give every person on the planet a million dollars.... ugh.
to some other responses
* as I mention, they are not evil
* Mormon rituals are not based on freemasonry; and Mormonism is not evil either
* there is no woship in freemasonry, it is NOT a religion, nor a religious organization
* all Shriners are Master Masons
* again, freemasonry does not deny that Christ is God... it does not address the issue becuase it is not a religion -- this is not difficult folks, its a fraternity not a religion
* the 3rd degree is the highest level, and the luciferian garbage is just that, garbage. the creator of that garbage admitted he lied and was trying to create a hoax on freemasonry (see taxil hoax). the only hoax now are all the ignorant bible thumpers who still believe that old lie
* the chick.com site is full of lies, of the same ilk that haven been proven false

It is like a College Fraternity. Yes we have our own mode of recognition, hand shakes, passwords etc. just like in college. There is nothing evil and the devil or satin is not ever mentioned in our rituals, let alone worshiped. It is NOT a religion, it is however a friend to all religions. We do not tell you what to believe in, we only ask that you believe in your own God or Supreme Being. This may be why so many people think it is a religion, but it is our way of making sure we are attracting a good hearted person to the organization.
I am a Christian and a 32nd degree master mason and shriner. Please feel free to ask any detail questions, I would be glad to answer truthfully.

No it's not evil. The freemasons are just a fraternal organization (secret type society) that share moral ideals. They get together have a "Grand Puba hand shake" (;O)), wear silly aprons, read from the free mason bible and have fun(or at least that is what my dad told me)..Check out your local lodge and maybe they can give you some more ideas of what they do

My Dad always belonged to a Masonic Lodge and practiced the freemasonry. I always aksed him about it, and it always seemed top secret.I know when my Dad died, I couldn't believe all the men who were at his funeral...fellow Masons...to pay their respect and perform their own mini service the night before the funeral.I do not think anything about it was evil. My Dad was always a good person.

No, definately not evil. Read on.
When A Man Is A Mason by Dr. J.F. Newton
* When he can look out over the rivers, the hills and the far horizon with a profound sense of his own littleness in the vast scheme of things, and yet have faith, hope, and courage - which is the root of every virtue.
* When he knows that down in his heart that every man is as noble, as vile, as divine, as diabolic, and as lonely as himself, and seeks to know, to forgive, and to love his fellow man.
* When he knows how to sympathise with men in their sorrows, yes, even in their sins, knowing that each man fights hard against many odds.
* When he has learned how to make friends, and keep them, and above all, how to keep friends with himself.
* When he loves flowers, can hunt birds without a gun, and feels the thrill of an old forgotten joy when he hears the laugh of a child.
* When he can be happy and high-minded amid the meaner drudgeries of life.
* When the star-crowned trees and the glint of sunlight on flowing waters subdue him like the thought of one much loved and long dead.
* When no voice of distress reaches his ears in vain, and no hand seeks his aid, without response.
* When he finds good in every faith that helps any man to lay hold of divine things and see majestic meanings of life, whatever the name of that faith may be.
* When he can look into a wayside puddle and see something beyond mud, and into the face of the most forlorn fellow mortal and see something beyond sin.
* When he know how to pray, how to love, how to hope.
* When he has kept faith with himself, with his fellow man, with his God; In his hand a sword for evil, in his heart a bit of a song, glad to live, but not afraid to die!
* Such a man has found the only real secret of Masonry, and the one which is trying to give all the world.

The Freemasons are a fraternal organization. One of the requirements is that all members believe in a supreme being (god). Many political leaders have been members, so it is a favorite among conspiracy theorists. However, many people who are not politically active are also members.
The Freemasons often work closely with the Shriners (as in, Shriner's Children's Hospitals)

No, it's not evil. Many freemasons were/are people with very strong religious faith. America was founded with freemasonry.

Good gracious, I am so tired of everything being "devil worship". You sure give this fictitious character a lot of credit.
Find a Masonic Lodge in your area and request information. I am sure you'll be suprised.
And Thank you, Mother B ;)

There are a lot of them in Louisiana where I live. Most of the things I see them do is good charitable work for people of natural disasters and things of that nature. They are a tight brotherhood who believe in helping them out. I have been thinking of joining myself. They have a very good name and reputation in this part of the country. Many of them that I know are good Christian people.

Damn, you are confused aren't you. Free Masons are what Christians claim to be but aren't. Read the following; hopefully you will be enlightened. Were you aware that the founding fathers of this country were Free Masons?
