Sirbobx is right - if you're trying to shake down the house, you're looking for a powerful subwoofer. One of the toughest subs out right now is the Fathom subwoofer by JL Audio. It's not cheap, but it's gotten HUGE reviews. If you want floor-standing left/right or front channel speakers that pack a mean punch, take a look at the Klipsch RF-83 or RF-82 speakers. The Definitive Technology "Supertower" speakers are also quite strong and have subwoofers built right in to them. In my opinion, the Klipsch option is better fo movies and the DefTechs are better for music. So just pick what suits you and make sure you have a high limit on your credit card.

For high detail and accuracy - look into ribbon or electrostatic panel speakers. Companies like Magnapan and Martin Logan are two big names.
If you are trying to 'shake the house' - this is all about the subwoofer. Check out SVS subwoofers. These things will rattle stuff off the shelves two rooms over, yet they are highly linear which audiophiles crave.
And please don't believe that little plastic cubes will impress anybody. They are rather poor from an audio point of view and Bose has laywers who will sue anybody who tries to publish performance specs on their speakers.

look for speakers with high sensitivity figures. the higher the figure, the more electrical power from your amplifier will be converted to acoustical energy by your speakers.
