I live in Southern Illinois, about an hour east of STL. Once when I was very young, I overturned a rock and found a cluster of very small bugs. They all were roundish, or beetle shaped and had a tuft of white fuzz esentially covering thier backs. Can anyone tell me what these were? I assume they were the larva of something, but I don't know what.

Nope not pill bugs.(pill bugs are not crusteatans either...they are isopods :) ) Not any kind of ordinary bug you find when you go around turning over rocks. That is why I remembered them.
