Most religion is that way. It is one reason wars and things are so brutal.

I'd say one of the main reasons is fear of others. They fear losing their ideas, being harmed by others, etc.

I imagine that is also a strong reason why so many people who are religious will be "friends with pretty much anyone and long as we "don't discuss religion".

There is also a saying that those who believe in burning hellfire (torture) have a long list of others and religions they can't wait to throw in it. Most in Christendom are pretty gleeful about that doctrine.

Because people are human. God is perfect. ITs' hard to love peopel who make mistakes and say things that really get your goat. They say stupid stuff like, "there is no God" and cal you an idiot. OR somethign even mroe personal. That' pretty hard to deal with. Peopel who are int he spriit have a harder time dealing with the rest of the world because they are tuned in to God and His perfection but what they need to do is remind themselves that He LOVES all these people. He doesn't necessarily approve of what they say ut He stil loves them. It's kinda why He sent His Son for them. He did NOT do that for kicks. When's the last time you saw a real live crucifixion as a vacation attraction? I don't think yoru average tourist would sign up to be crucified. No that only comes with true sacrifice for someone who loves soemone else.

Hmm... interesting question.

I don't believe that you can make such a blanket statement about this topic though. Unfortunately anyone can say they are a Christian, but too few of us who actually proclaim to be Christians really are.

I love all people (though I get frustrated with the foolish ones) and yet I do not abide sin in other people's lives, just like I do my best not to abide sin in my life.

But I must always remind myself that Salvation and Justification come from nothing that I can do on my own, and so neither can other people do anything to bring about their own Salvation. It is only through grace that we are given life, and so must we give grace other people, but that is a forgotten principle in Christianity today.

For example:
Yes, homosexuality is a sin, and listed as the worst kind of sin, Abomination. However, so is Lying, and Fornication. Yet many "Christians" who rant so harshly against Homosexuality are Liars and Fornicators, and in said contradiction comes their own judgment.

Judging people is not against Scriptural principle, but Hypocritical Judgment is.

I came across a lovely novel many years ago that explained the matter nicely. When someone wishes to try to imagine the amazing difference between God and humans, the scope is just mind-boggling. There are two ways to do it. Either try to imagine God as "big" as He really is or artificially imagine humans to be "smaller" than they really are. Since it is harder (and more frightening) to try to wrap ones mind around the full extent of what God might be, most people prefer to diminuate other human beings to maintain the proportion.

The final goal is to figure out a "God" who manages to "fit into a box" instead of try to deal with a God who is fully transcendent and independent of human limitations.

I didn't write the novel, so stop complaining at me about God's gender therein. Is THAT the best complaint you can come up with against my answer? That's IT?

Love the sinner, hate the sin!! No one is perfect.....and just because some ("supposed to be") Christians are like that doesn't mean that all of us are! The "preacher" is right....with that Avatar, looks like YOU have a good bit of animosity towards people in general, not just christians! You're in my prayers!!

such a disdain for other people,,, Then they are not being a true Christians,,, we are suppose to love the sinner not the sin.. We are suppose too show them the same love that God showed us, by going to the cross to die for our sins.. I know its hard for some people to see past the sin,, What I do is realize that this person doesn't know of the love God has for them,, and to me thats sad,, because alot people feel there is no one who cares for them, but if they would seek God that would change..

Little Bush,
PLEASE be careful where you "relieve yourself"... I am a Christian and I try not to be offensive toward others. I do not believe that I am any better than any other person on this earth. I read, study, and obey the Bible because I believe it's contents. That certainly does not mean that I expect you or anyone else to change his/her opinions about GOD just because I am here. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

What? I think we just get defensive, and sometimes a little frustrated or angry when people are on here asking questions that are offensive to us as Christians. I actually don't disdain you, I pity you, and your soul. I hope you find happiness and peace one day, and let go of your bitterness towards Christians!
