I've tried many pain meds, but they are all derivitives of codeine, which I'm allergic to. Vicodin, Percoset, Phentynal, Oxycontin are all from codeine.
Anything else you know of that is not related to codeine?
Thank you.

I react to Darvocet & Ultram the same; itching & vomiting.
The Phentynal was/is a patch, but still codeine-derived.

Not meaning to come across rude, but I'm also allergic to the "off" versions of codeine, such as "hydro" codone, etc. I'm also allergic to Naproxen, as well as Lidocaine & Novacaine.

Ask your doctor about Nefopam hydrochloride. You can also try ibuprofeun, diclofenac, etc

There's plenty of medication thats not codiene based if a doctor is prepared to think about giving you something other than the smarties they prescribe everyone who walks in their office.

*Edit
To everyone suggesting other opiate based meds...

Vicodin, Hydrocodone, etc are not strictly codiene, but they are codiene deviratives, which means that if the person has a codiene allergy taking any of that is about as wise as someone with a nut allergy eating a peanut butter sandwhich.

I have the same problem. I found out I was was allergic to Codeine when I had my first child. Then I found out I was allergic to Darvocet with my second child. My doctors have told me to pray that I never have any chronic pain problems. It turns out I can take Vicodin if I take Benadryl with it. Vicodin is related but further removed than the other pain meds. Check with your doctor first though. I used it for three days with no reaction. Hope you can too! Good luck.

You may need a muscle relaxant such as Flexeril or Soma. Also Ultram has been effective in helping to eliminate pain.
Ask your doctor if one of these could be included in your pain management along with a non codeine pain reliever. As also mentioned, Lidoderm patches have been very helpful.

Since you have that nasty allergy, you are limited in a way. Not being a physician, I don't have the really good answer you are looking for but you can call your own Doctor or any emergency room and speak to a nurse who will have the answer you want. I can tell you that large doses of plain old aspirin are excellent pain relievers and ibuprophin(sp?) in a lg. dose form called Motrin is another good one. Not the over the counter motrin. The prescribed dose is 800 mg. However, don't give up hope, there are many other non-codine,(sp?), related pain relief drugs out there for you.

Have you been to a pain clinic? Have you tried epidurals and nerve blocks? While it is true that many us codeine based injections, some, I believe, are not.

Non-opioid Analgesics, Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

Muscle Relaxants

Anticonvulsants ( I have had pretty good luck with these medications, they really work weel for pain)

Antidepressants

Anti-anxiety Drugs

I know, these choices sound strange, but are actually used very often in controlling pain.

The reason that they made Hydrocodone and Oxycodone was for people who are allergic to Codeine. They are not true Opiates. But if you are truely allergic to them to, Then there are other things. Darvocet and Ultram to name two.
