Each headache specialist works differently, most have you fill out a significant history regarding your headaches and previous treatments and testing. They usually then do a complete physical and neurological examination, and make some recommendations.

I would highly recommend you go to the website below:

http://www.headaches.org

this is the national headache foundation, they have two tabs on the main page, select the patient resources tab. Then select the educational resources tab.

See the How to talk to your headache doctor page. This will help you know what information is important to report so the doctor can properly diagnose and treat your headaches.

Print and fill out the headache diary as shown.

People say there are several causes for migraines, and this is not thought to be the case. The actual cause is not proven, but there is a current consensus theory. What people often say are causes are actually called triggers, they do not cause the headaches, but they can trigger the effect. There are activities and foods to be avoided, however, each person's triggers are individual. This is the purpose for the diary noted above. It helps you to discover your triggers so they can be avoided or eliminated.

I also recommend the pages on analgesic rebound, and diet.

The key to getting the best care is being as honest as you can. Often patients who see headache doctors don't want to admit that they are taking medications in addition or in excess of what it shows on their consults or records. If you don't reveal everything, you will not improve.

Remember, there are treatments for everyone, and everyone can improve. Don't believe anyone who says they can cure everyone who they see, it just doesn't happen. If they say everyone they see stops having headaches they are lying to themselves or you. But they will decrease them so you will be back to a normal life, and give you a treatment plan so you control the trigger, prevent the headaches and abort the headaches quickly when you get them.

If they say it takes three hours, that usually allows time for inprocessing paperwork, filling out the history, and a complete family history. Then often you will see a CMA or LPN for vital signs and height/weight and they will ask some questions. Then often a PA or Nurse Practitioner will review your history with you, and then perform the full physical and neuro exam. Then you will see the doctor. The doctor will do an abbreviated review of the key points of the history which have been highlighted by the NP and probably rexamine any abnormalities seen on the exam by the NP. Then you will be given a plan by the doctor. Often you will then be seen again by the NP who will review the plan, make any request for test and prescribe treatments. You will then schedule a follow-up. This process should take about 3 hours. It doess at my office. SOmetimes depending on the day, there is also some of the time taken up just waiting so bring a book or something to occupy yourself between people.

Best wishes at your appointment! God Bless!

Expect them to have you fill out a survey showing diet, when the headaches occur to try to find a pattern.
They may put you on a machine to check brain waves. You will be checked for balance (eyes closed to see if you can touch you nose or will fall backwards) They will move their hands in front of your eyes and have you follow the movement with your eyes. Don't be scared there is nothing painful involved but I'm doubtful it will be three hours long unless they are going to do MRI and Blood work while you wait.

Don't go.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES,
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.
It may disappear naturally too.
