I've already gotten some good advice by looking at previously asked questions. But some remain. Like, most speaker systems will have to be hooked up to the TV, meaning they're not wireless? Which means that they'll need to be close to the TV unless I decide to run wires around the room? Do I need to buy speakers by the same mfr. as the tv itself? I know I'd get better quality for more money, but I'm not going there. So will it be worth spending around $200? Do the speakers take the place of the built-in tv speakers, or are they in addition to them?

First, you're looking at hooking your TV up to some kind of amplifier (stereo receiver) and speakers using your audio output jacks on your TV. At that point, it doesn't matter what kind of speakers you get, as long as you like the way they sound. You can't just hook the speakers up to the TV itself, because they usually don't have output jacks coming from the TV's audio amplifier.

Yes, you'll have to run wires from the stereo to the speakers, unless you get wireless speakers. These can be kind of pricey and they don't have as good of sound quality as direct-wired speakers of the same price.

As far as what kind of speakers to get, I recommend Klipsch. You can get a good pair of used Klipsch bookshelf speakers on eBay for a couple hundred dollars. But, figure you'll have to spend at least another hundred on a new, no-frills stereo receiver, too (unless you already have one).
