I know that some Christian movements, especially in the USA, so called "creationists" do not believe in the theory of evolution. However, I was wondering if there are similar feelings also among Muslim and Hindus? Or is Darwinism accepted as a matter of scientific fact?

If you are a Muslim or Hindu and are for or against the theory of evolution, please argument and tell why, or why not!

To all:

I'm not asking if Darwin's theory is correct or not. I'm asking what the different religions (except the Christian one whose attitude I already know) think about Darwin's theory? Please tell why they take a position for or against.

HINDUISM :

Hinduism does believe in evolution. In fact hinduism is the only religion which has the most scientific basis for the universe

Hindus believe that a soul has to transit through 8.4 million types of different species (including plants, bacteria, insects etc) to reach human levels.

The avtars of vishnu mentioned in hinduism clearly indicate the evolution as the first one is a fish then a reptile, then half human, then dwarf human and last Krishna the perfect human being.

But the evolution as per hinduism is not exactly as Darwin mentioned...in fact the evolution theory of hinduism is far better than that of Darwin.... as hindu philsophy believes it is the evolution of mind which emerges from matter first as a bleak reaction to the environment, then as sub-conscious (as in plants) and finaly as fully mindful as human beings

so as per hinduism, the evolution of the mind takes place in universe, and this mind evolution brings changes in the body and genes, as per its requirements.

This evoltuion of mind is still going on..slowly and we are advancing towards a divine human being...having all the powers of telepathy, telekinesis tele-vision etc.

By Yoga this evolution of mind can be made in geometrical progressions

This response is a little off topic, but in honor of Darwin, I feel I should comment. That is sad that so many Americans don't believe in evolution, but I'm pretty sure I know the reason why.... I would say more than 63% of American are misinformed about the theory of evolution. I received my MA from a school in the deep south and every time "evolution" was mentioned, the majority of the class would roll their eyes. A lot of people in the south are very religious and are not open to the idea of evolution but a bigger problem is that many people think Darwin's theory basically says, "humans evolved from monkeys". People need to be educated about what exactly the theory of evolution states. We had a "common ancestor" with apes, but that doesn't mean that a gorilla mutated or "evolved" into a human being. I think many people in the United States get the wrong impression about evolution because the theory is rarely taught correctly. It is a little sad that people of the United States are so misinformed...

Without any purpose to offend anyone, with all my respect, Muslims only believe in Ala and Mahoma his profet, Muslims and Hindus have a very antique culture formation and cultural beliefs that annoy them to believe in something else.
Educated Muslims, however, evaluate those theories and in some instances they have some pragmatic thinking over the creation.
Darwinism are scientific and real facts which rationally must be accepted as an intelligent position, however, the intervention of God's hand in all this process is present, no doubt, so in my humble opinion one can not be held without the other support. This is a matter of rationality and faith well founded.

Of cource Muslims and Christians would defy that theory because there is a direct belief in Isam and Chrisitanity of how the humans appeared. In Hinduism there is a myth about the first man but many Hindus don't consider that story too important. Christian ideas are being taught in schools so my guess is that Hindus now believe the many gods created the world similarly to Chritian concepts.

Religious tales are stories withot corroborative evidences. Darvin's theory is also a story with some very flimsy evidences. Wait for some time, some new story would come up, more palatable than Darwin's.
I am a Hindu.

See Darwin's theory of evolution is based on science and it is prooved scientifically. So I don't think there isno matter of riligion to belive it or not. But traditional religion might not belive it.

Those who believe in any religion cant accept Darwin theory. Moreover it is just a thoery and an idea put forward by a scientist. it is yet to be proved or yet to be believed as true.
Professor C. A. Coulson, F. R.S., Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University, was republished in the "Reader's Digest" November 1960 - It shows how science compels the scientists to admit to the essential need of a Supreme Creator. We are still in the dawn of the scientific age and every increase of light reveals more brightly the handiwork of an intelligent Creator. In the 90 years since Darwin we have made stupendous discoveries; with a spirit of scientific humanity and of faith grounded in knowledge we are approaching even nearer to an awareness of God. So many exacting conditions are necessary for life on earth that they could not possibly exist in proper relationship by chance. The earth rotates on its axis at one thousand miles an hour; if it turned at one hundred miles an hour, our days and nights would be ten times as long as now, and the hot sun would then burn up our vegetation during each long day, while in the long night any surviving sprout would freeze. Again, the sun, source of our life, has a surface temperature of 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and our earth is, just far enough away so that this 'eternal fire" warms us just enough and not too much! If the sun gave off only one-half its present radiation, we would freeze, and if it gave half as much more, we would roast. The slant of the earth, tilted at an angle of 23 degrees, gives us our season; if it had not been so tilted, vapours from the ocean would move north and south, piling up for us continents of ice. If our moon was, say, only 50 thousand miles away instead of its actual distance. Our tides would be so enormous that twice a day all continents would be submerged; even the mountains would soon be eroded away. If the crust of the earth had been only ten feet thicker, there would be no oxygen without which animal life must die. Had the ocean been a few feet deeper, carbon dioxide and oxygen would have been absorbed and no vegetable life could exist. Or if our atmosphere had been thinner, some of the meteors, now burned in space by the million every day; would be striking all parts of the earth, starting fires everywhere. Because of these, and host of other examples, there is not one chance in millions that life on our planet is an accident
