No disrespect but sometimes you guys really do confuse me.
The first image you present is:
A kind of boastfulness about your majority, mega powerhouse religion in America that is growing by leaps and bounds and gaining more and more people by the minute. Building powerful, well funded churches, organizations, schools, universities. Funding powerful arms in government, military and media. Wielding so much power, that presidential hopefuls MUST take your religious opinions into consideration to even stand a chance at the polls.
The second image you present is:
A persecuted, unpopular, powerless group, maligned by a vast majority of non-Christian elements. A group surrounded by the vast majority of those who are non-Christian and therefore ruining society and America.
So WHICH IS IT? Are you GAINING in numbers and strength or are you a maligned pesecuted group? It cannot be both.
Can you clear this up please?

BTW; I am a pagan witch and one of only TEN non-Christian people in a southern town with an avid Christian population, Christian schools, mega churches, businesses etc.
If anything, it would be someone like ME who should be so persecution anxious. Or is it that I am more thick-skinned?

Darwin you probably are a nice person, but your answer seems a little hateful and you make the false assumption I am somehow part of some atheist plot against Christians.
You are certainly living in your own little private battle 24/7. Sorry you have such a chip on your shoulder, you cannot read a question objectively.

It's not really Christians who present those 2 images. Usually propagandists of many groups, including Christian propagadists, use those tactics.
The reason for the 1st image:
They try to attract more masses by showing a huge herd. After all sheeps just follow the herds (psychological tactic).
The reason for the 2nd image:
Using fear to control the masses. To motivate them to do what the leaders want. Or to divert their attention from some issues to another (another psychological tactic)

It's pretty clear we're a big majority in the states, with a lot of voting power - I don't count people saying happy holidays, the possibility of a pro-choice president being elected, or getting made fun of on yahoo answers as persecution.

they are a superpower, they are (self reporting) around 75% of the population...(in USA)
They just like to play the persecution card every time we keep them from controlling an aspect of our lives...
Simple, Giant, Overgrown Baby Religion (not all the believers though)
If they can't respect secular laws, they should use our democratic form of government to change the laws to suit their religion, if there truly are enough of them, constitutional amendments can be repealed in future amendments...
HOWEVER, I think there are enough Intelligent christians to vote down such an idea, and agree that religion should NEVER be mixed with government...

There is nothing confusing about this at all, 87% of the United States, states that they are of the Christian faith, less than 5 percent claim to be athiest. The point is 5 percent are using the court system to gain intolarace for Christianity that they know they could never achive any other way. Is that fair? no, but keep in mind what comes around goes around, For every Christian that passes on, 3 muslims take thier place, within 100 years assuming this world stands, there wont be gay marriage, there wont be a women in the white house, there will be islamic rule, and your children will reap what YOU have sown. You think that things were rough with some one asking you do you know Jesus, you haven't seen nothing yet. Enjoy.

it most definitely can be both... America was founded on Christianity and our churches are struggling to remind the politicians that their stance on things like religion and the right to have religion in schools, work, courts etc... is what could tear our nation apart... vast number of non-Christians are just as welcome but we SHOULD NOT change our stand on Christianity. It is the glue that held us together all these years... if you look at society today... and trace back to when i troubles really started, you can see that it is during the times some were starting to fight right to religion and beliefs in public places....
in some areas the Church is still large enough to hurt a candidate running for office but sadly enough there are just as many areas pushing religion out the door...

It is difficult to justify the persecution prophesy in the bible with the 'there are a bunch of us so it must be true' philosophy of the church.

That's another of the confusing things about Christians. The one I find the most confusing is the fact that they all love and revere Jesus so much and apparently try to emulate his behavior as stated in their bible, but as we speak they are at war, they hate, they judge, they manipulate, they lie....the hypocrisy is endless.

Paradoxical, I know, but we *are* both.
We are gaining in numbers, but we are also experiencing increased persecution, especially in the hatred exhibited towards us.
This happened in the earliest days of the church as well, the more the church was persecuted, the more it grew. So, while we are stronger amongst ourselves, because of the hatred towards us, we are losing influence as a group.
