Also, why do atheists celebrate Christmas?

Hello,

Because I enjoy fantasy, sword and sorcery and vampires to werewolves. It is a fun time to get together, give the children some fun and candy and have a few parties.

Lots of people who are not Christian enjoy the holidays just the same. You can have a good time with people and enjoy the life and festivities without being religious.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

I'll answer the Halloween question first. A lot of Christians don't celebrate it. I grew up in a house where we didn't do anything for Halloween. We did, however, have church parties called "Harvest Fest" or "Pumpkin Patch Party" that occured on Halloween. There are some Christians that do celebrate Halloween because they see it as a night of fun for their kids. Tell you the truth, most non-Christians who celebrate Halloween don't believe that that dead souls walk the earth either.

Atheists celebrate Christmas in a secular way. They have all the elements of Christmas without Christ. It's a way of making good memories and having a celebration in the dark of winter.

A lot of Christians don't celebrate Hallowe'en because it goes against their beliefs, however, as Hallowe'en is not actually a celebration of anything anti-Christian, just an excuse to celebrate made up by pagans before Christianity really made it big in the Western World (or so I'm told) it is really a matter of personal choice. Atheists celebrate Christmas because everyone else does and there are presents, chocolate and alcohol involved.

Because it's more of a cultural thing than a belief thing for most people. Christians who celebrate Halloween get into the traditions they grew up with. Same with atheists who celebrate Christmas. Besides, everyone likes free candy & presents.

When I "celebrate" Halloween, I'm not recognizing dead souls wandering the earth. For me, it's about carving a pumpkin, watching scary movies, and passing out candy to the cute kids that dress up and go trick-or-treating. I don't see anything "evil" in that.

Just in case there are dead souls wandering the Earth. It's like Pascal's wager for paganism.

Same thing for atheists at Christmas, except it's Pascal's Wager for Santa Claus.

Does anybody REALLY believe in any of it? Christmas? Halloween? Easter? Hell, President's Day?

No. It's just fun and games. Enjoy it.
