God loves the person, and their potential, not their lifestyle. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the people there would not repent or regret the lifestyle changes that they had made. So He destroyed their city to make a point...that no matter how much He loves you, certain things will not be tolerated.
Imagine this. Your own child whom you love beyond reason, takes up doing heavy drugs and alcohol. A reasonable parent would be horrified and would do whatever they could to get them to stop. But not only do they continue, they start flaunting it in front of you and in your house. Now your younger children are following their example. Do you let it continue because you love them or do you put your foot down and kick them out if they refuse to stop?

The people of those places wanted to forcibly rape the visitors to their town. [Instead, Lot offers his daughters out to be raped!] They were incinerated for their total depravity.
That correction being made, take it to a higher level - God makes man mortal as a curse for Adam & Eve eating the fruit. So God loves us all and yet kills us all. Is that a paradox?
Only if we think our actions have no consequences, that what we do with our bodies do not affect the state of our souls. The Jews believed homosexuality was an action that came from an evil place. This story is a myth that teaches what happens to those who do evil.
There are many people, like me, who do not view the Levitical conception of good and evil to be God's. I don't think God cares what I do with my body parts per se, but cares very much what effect my actions have on me and on others. To the extent that homosexuality or heterosexuality is bad for your soul, our language can only express reality by saying somethnig like our relationship with God then suffers.

I believe the Bible says God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the townsmen wanted the two angels sent outside to have sex with them. I think they deserved to be destroyed.

God loves the PERSON not the SIN.
Sodom and Gommorrah were warned many times to repent from their sin. On a couple of occasions they did. Over time they reverted back to the sinful behavior. God again warned them until finally punishment was meted.
This is what He is telling all mankind even now.
Repent. Turn away from your sin and back to Me.
Jesus will save you.
Do it before it is too late.

sodom and gomorrah were destroyed because of the lustful acts of loveless sex and orgies, nothing to do with homosexuality.

...a Judge may love the accoused, but He can (at the same time) issue judgement against them
