I am a liberal.Well, a moderate liberal anyway.I am tolerant of Christians and Muslims and every other person who has a belief. It is not the believers that I have a problem with per-say.It is how they use their beliefs against non believers and against society in general.I have no tolerance for religious legislating or proselytizing.

It is because the government and peacekeepers are trying to appeal to moderate , middle of the road Muslims , to turn towards finding peaceful solutions for our differences . For instance they could refuse to trade with Israel rather than trying to bomb it off the map . Of they could deny gay Muslims full "blessings" rather than behead them . The educated world does not want a majority of Muslims rallying behind blood thirsty , fundamentalist leaders . Especially since to be Muslim means you have accepted the Quo'ran which tells you that you have to work towards making the entire world subject to Islamic Civil Law , except for the Jews , who must be wiped from the face of the earth .
By contrast , most Christian groups have evolved past following the letter of the law as far as the Bible is concerned .e.g. most Christians accept Blacks as equal Human beings . The Bible has always been considered open to interpetation and change , wheras the Quo'ran states that every word must be taken literally ,and followed .
Now a days , you see very few suicide bombers amomgst the Jews and Christians . And the few that fit into that catagory like Timothy McVie are considered to be nothing more than isolated nutjobs . Very few leaders in the world hide behind the need to spread their religion . Except for the Islamic Fundamentalists including Bin Laden .
Islam is due for a formal Protest-ant movement . It is a more recent religion than Catholicism and Judism which have alredy gone through many protest-ant changes and rebellions . Unfortunately it seems the only way this will happen is for a "New Muhammed" with a new set of emergency instructions ( New Quo'ran) will have to come along and be accepted by Islamic protestors .

Well in my book I have no double standard. I disdain all three Abrahamic religions equally. But I think since you are posting and live in a predominately Anglo/Saxon/Caucasian world there will be more prejudice towards Christianity then Islam because people criticize what they know, and what they have been brought up around. If you posted in a predominantly middle east or Arab section you may see a difference.

Yes, it's a bit misguided, to say the least. Muslims want you to make way for Islam. But they will not make way for you. The government insists that you respect Islam. But Islam has no respect for you. Islam wants to rule, submit, and seeks to destroy western culture - including Liberals. You cannot be a Liberal and an Islamist. Muslims do not support democracy. Their leading Mullahs have said so often enough. "They should denounce political parties. And worldly concepts like liberalism, democracy, socialism, and everything associated with it and originated from the human brain" (Tawheed Mosque) "We do not agree with freedom of speech, because we denounce democracy. Islam is our alternative" (Dutch newspaper )

Liberals find certain elements of Islam to be just as offensive as they find certain elements of Christianity. There really isn't a double standard at all. It probably just seems like there is from your standpoint.
In Holland, there was a homosexual legislator named Pim Fortuyn that was assassinated by a muslim because Fortuyn had called for stopping the immigration of muslims into Holland. Because of Fortuyn's stand against the immigration of muslims, he was often considered a conservative. However, Fortuyn actually opposed muslims for liberal reasons. Fortuyn wanted muslims kept out because muslims tended to hate gays.
Also, a lot of liberals do not live around muslims and thus do not have to deal with having Islamic ideas constantly being forced upon them and/or their community. However, most liberals do find themselves in a position where they have to deal occasionally with Christian beliefs being forced upon them via legislation or other types of government action, (or by the actions of their neighbors). So, you are going to see more liberal resistance against Christian stuff simply because it the Christian stuff that is causing problems for them.
Due to the fact that there are a lot more muslims in Europe than in the US, there is a lot more conflict between European liberals and muslims than there is between US liberals and muslims. This is why the Mohammed cartoon issue arose in Denmark instead of somewhere in the US. In the US, there are not yet enough muslims for a US publication of those cartoons to draw much attention.
When the cartoons were eventually published by US papers, they really only got attention because the issue had already arisen in Europe.

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm pretty sure you'd classify me as one of these "liberals" but I don't have much of a double standard when it comes to being tolerant and respectful, certainly not one against Christians....seeing how I am one.

I'm a liberal and a Christian and I have been, am currently, and continue to be a very vocal critic of both the fundamentalist/Evangelical marriage to the Right and of Islam in general (aside from the Sufis).

You listen to Rush and Hannity too much.
Liberals are not overly tolerant of any religion over another. They are typically trying to point out that no religion deserves special treatment over another, and this is interpreted as being overly tolerant by Christians.
People like Rush and Hannity, then use this belief to get the masses all riled up and feeling persecuted, so their ratings increase and the republican party can rally its base.
But in reality it is all based on lies and a willful misunderstanding of the platform.
I am not a liberal by the way, I am fiscally conservative, and socially libertarian.
