Do you eat meat? If so then this question should be deleted. The reason I say this is that if you are indeed a meat eater, the meat that you put into your mouth from the supermarket comes from an animal that has been raised in capitvity fattened up and killed for the sole purpose of feeding the masses.
Your opinion that hunting is not a sport is merely that, an opinion. I can not answer for every hunter but I can answer for myself. I do not hunt merely for the "sport" or the "fun". Sure, hunting gives me these things. The thrill of the hunt. The fun times had at the camp and the mutual respect of other hunters. It also gives me meat. I eat everything I shoot and I do not shoot something unless I intend to eat it.
Another thing you need to realize is that hunters are some of the best conservationists on the planet. You sound like a tree hugger. I am not saying that you are, but you sure do talk the part. When was the last time you were out in the woods? Do you realize that without hunting the animal populations all over the world would rise to such a high level that diseases would take over and likely eradicate those species.
What is the difference in me shooting a deer for food or a coyote killing a deer for food. We are both predators. We both employ tactics to gather that food and we both require the vitamins and nutrients provided by meat. I do eat supermarket meat on occasion but I will eat hunted meat long before I will stuff a steroid injected disease burger into my mouth.
The hunters do more for this planet than all of the PETA and Anti-Deforestation protesters combined. We know that if we don't preserve the land and animals on the land that we won't be able to continue hunting. Even more, we know that failure to preserve the land and animals will end hunting for future generations. If you did half of what the average hunter did for the land maybe you would have learned the respect to not ask such a question.

I don't dress up. I've never shot for the '@ss' of a deer.
I have some old dirty pants and a greenish jacket that do a good enough job, and I have no reason to spend more money on something just as good. Shooting in the '@ss' is unethical, a lung shot or damage to the central nervous system is the best and most ethical way to bring down any animal.
If we weren't supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat? If you've ever had venison, it's probably the best meat you've ever had. And, a good hunt can result in 200lbs of that on the table for the price of one or two $2 bullets and a license. Without hunting, population control for deer and various other animals wouldn't exist, and they'd overpopulate, flooding the highways with accidents and corpses and spreading disease like wildfire. The money that comes from hunting licenses goes right back into the environment, if you've ever gone outside to a park, you've got hunters to thank that it's there.
To add to that, I know a family nearby who isn't too well off, and they're more than happy to receive a few parcels of extra meat over the winter, just in time for the holidays.

So why did you get on here and ask this question? Seriously? Did you do it to know why people hunt for real, or do you just want to upset some people? You have never hunted before right? Maybe if you gave it a try you would see that it actually takes a great deal of skill and determination to be good at it. It seems to me that you had your mind made up when you asked this question and in so doing you are just being an antagonist so when people do get mad at you, you feel validated in feeling that hunters really are bad people. Do you personally know any hunters? Maybe if you did you would see that they are generally normal, hard working everyday people and not blood thirsty killers only looking to shoot bambi in the @ss. If you really think hunters are jerks for hunting, then why have any contact with them at all? I hate liberal democrats and because of that I avoid them at all costs. Why don't you try that for a change instead of picking unwarranted fights while hiding behind your computer screen.

Because I like to kill things of course. Deer, chipmunks, sparrows, baby seals, whatever. Heck if it moves, consider it shot. Big game is more fun, lots of room to wound them so it can take hours to kill them which is why I shoot them in the azz. I never eat the meat, it's just so much hassle, far better to just let them lie and use them for bait to kill more things! Of course I am just suppressing and sublimating my desire to kill people by hunting and am using the wild animals to replace them. I haven't gotten more than a fourth grade edumication and think marrying my cousin was a wise decision. After all nothin says luvin like marryin your cousin, right?
These are the answers you were looking for right? This is the kind of belief system you must have or you wouldn't have posted this in a hunting section other than to piss people off. You know perfectly well why people hunt, and are just using this forum to show the world what an asswipe you are. Put down the Xbox controller, climb out of mom's basement and if you can get free from your job at McDonalds, try eating some meat you shot yourself.

if you shoot a deer in the *** your a bad shot, hunting isnt just shooting animals for sick fun and enjoyment, it takes keen sense and patience, and a respect for the outdoors. hunting is a way to control the population of certain species of animals, thats why they have seasons, its not a ruthless killing where you leave dead and wounded animals everywhere, its called a harvest, you take what you will use, its a choice to be a hunter, its the closest to nature you can get... if nobody hunted this whole planet would be covered in cookie cutter houses and everyone would be starving because the animals would be living in your house with you sharing your dinner, because nobody took the time to keep preserved land for them and control their population for the benefit of both sides
i hunt because its peaceful, its also about many more things that you learn about yourself, i go into the woods and nothing bothers me, not my job, relationship probs.. ect, i leave all that stuff at the house, its just me , the woods, and whatever im going for.. its a game of chess, and like most games ... you want to win, so i gather all the info i can and make the best guess on where the best spot will be to increase my chance.. have you ever been somewhere and not heard a single man made sound..? thats why i hunt

Well next time you eat an apple or carrot, think about that apple or carrot or any other fruit or veggie and what they were doing prior to being picked. I mean sitting in a tree or in the ground minding their own business....
People here hunt for food. Three deer will put enough meet on the table for a year. Baseball, football, and soccer is polar opposites of hunting and it does not put food on the table unless you buy it from someone who killed it instead of you.

I grew up in the country hunting and fishing was what we did, football and baseball are what rich city kids did.
If you think hunting isnt as much a sport as football try deer hunting in the mountains or swamps sometime.
I hunt because its a link to my childhood and good for the enviroment and the meat makes better chili than any store bought beef.
I spend the whole year practising and studying to do something that gives me great pleasure.
Yes I do dress up like a bush. Its my uniform and IM proud to wear it .
I cant explain it any better than that.
All I can say is try it you may love it or not ,its the only way to answer your question.

I'm a hardcore hunter and yes, I eat/give away whatever I kill. I actually find hunting extremely enjoyable. Many knock it who haven't tried hunting. I really enjoy becoming emensed in the hunting experience. I always stalk my prey and you have to be mindful of your surroundings as well as how much sound you make while creeping through the woods. It takes a lot of skill to be a hunter and there's no other feeling like the moment right before you squeeze the trigger. It's almost like time seems to stop.

Son, you never shoot a deer there. That's just wrong.
As for why we hunt,..... if you hunt, you don't have to ask. If you have to ask, you'll never understand.
You must be a vegan because I just know you wouldn't be enough of a hypocrite to eat meat and then give a hunter a hard time because he chooses to get some of his meat from the woods instead of the supermarket. You are a vegan aren't you?
