My ex husband is AWOL from the Army Reserves and checked himself into a mental health facility so that he can file for disability. He did do a tour in Iraq a few years ago but there is nothing wrong with him, he is just trying to get out of the service and get paid so he won't have to work. In the meantime he is doing heavy drugs and has quit his job so that it looks good for his disability claim.
This whole things sounds very dirty and unethical, should I tell somebody or report my suspicions to the VA? I would hate to see him getting paid to do nothing but get high everyday.

Absolutely tell your story to the VA. They will evaluate it and take appropriate action based on their evaluation. I'd also report him to his reserve unit. They would probably like to know where he is.

The only problem I can see is that they may look at as an "angry ex-wife" thing. You need to back up your allegations with verifiable facts and dates.

report this scumbag. You know there are those who DO have some kind of disability who can't get jack for it!

This pisses me off that some soldier can do that, but he's obviously not a good one being that he went AWOL.

You don't need a guy like this. Find a real man, get rid of him, gather some evidence and report this dude.

He's not AWOL if he checked himself into the VA...
If he's just looking for a free meal then report him though.

This guy did one tour in IRAQ, and that's more than you guys.
But everyone is quick to jump on him...

Turn him in. He's a criminal, and he's soaking up shares of the benefits that the real heroes have earned. There's not enough to go around, as it is.

And if he's AWOL, that's another reason to turn him in. Our brave young men over their are sacrificing their time, their limbs, and their lives for us, and anybody who goes AWOL is a coward.

Let him go live in Canada!

Blackmail them, They can't report you!

No, just kidding. Collect the evidence and turn them in to the VA authorities.

Yes, please, report him to the VA. There are many veterans with legitimate problems who need the help. He is just sucking up resources so that he can become a bum.

Think some times the very best thing to do, "is nothing", give him enough rope so he will hang himself.
Be tough to prove aspects of the above.

Report the bum. He's dishonoring the other 99.9% of troops who wouldn't do something like that even if someone put a gun to their head and tried to force them to do it.

Report it to the social worker that is working his case.

Here is the link for the VA hotline for fraud, waste, and abuse.
