Eternal damnation (religion) means neverending torture and suffering.

Eternal oblivion (atheism) means completely ceasing to exist. no body. no soul. absolutely nothing.

I'd say damnation wins for worst option, as I, an incarnate being, can extrapolate to imagine torture that goes on a very long time; however, oblivion as becoming nothing seems to have a flaw in it. Where does the energy of your body and mind go when you die? It transforms, according to the Law of Conservation of Mass and Energy. You become fertilizer and perhaps part of the zero-point energy or dark matter of the universe. Does this mean you don't exist, or just that you are not "you" anymore? One could extend this to say that what we are in this incarnation is mere illusion. We are already part of the dust and energy of the universe, but we mistakenly believe we're unique and indestructible as encapsulated entities, at least the part that sees itself and knows itself. I'd say the first option is the worst and the second one, modified in concept somewhat, is the more likely.

What primoa said should shake some people out of unbelief right now. It is with conviction that I believe eternal oblivion in this life leads to eternal damnation in the next. The opportunity to accept Christ, repent and surrender our will to Him, is NOW when we are alive. We will not have that opportunity after we die. If we do not accept Christ prior to death, we will forever be separated from Him.

You are forgetting that not every atheist believes that you cease to exist. Sure one may be dead and body rotting. But that person can live on in the lives of those that know them. That is the only true was to eternity.

I don't actually know.

Eternal Damnation would be horrible, and I'd hate to even try to think about it.

But Eternal Oblivion is something I just can't comprehend. I can't grasp not existing. I can't think about nothing. It's just hard for me to comprehend.

I'm not really sure...

To me, being damned is to have my progress stopped or significantly slowed (think of a dam on a river...). Sure, it would suck, but I would exist, I would still be able to progress and learn and grow (albeit, a lot slower than if I were to not be damned).

Oblivion is nothing.... I wouldn't exist, so I wouldn't care if I were progressing or learning or growing....

Damnation....

Because you will be alive during the torment.

We will all live forever....it's just a matter of where:
Heaven with Christ....or hell without Him

This may come as a shock to all you people that believe you have a soul...you don't. Once you're dead...you're well...dead.
