This has nothing to do with turning from God. If the Constitution were respected and followed within the halls of Congress, we would still be secure and prosperous.
We started going off the rails (so to speak) when we quit holding the dollar to the gold/silver standard. Then, we quit following the Constitutional mandate to never borrow more money than we could repay within a few years. We are now so far into debt that our grandchildren will still be paying on the debt our government is running up now. Add to that meddling in the private affairs of other nations (which we've done consistently since the end of WW2) and we've sold our security to the idol of empire-building.
No other nation on the earth ever hated us for being prosperous. The ones that do hate us do so because we've meddled in their governments and told them what to do, even when it went against what they would choose for themselves. When we topple the leader of a government that was chosen by the people he ruled, it doesn't matter what OUR reason was, they see it as interference. None of our business, from their point-of-view.

Yes, so is the United Kingdom which is turning into a real disaster.
One Nation under God?
On February 28, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the earlier ruling of a panel of three judges that struck out the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, at least when recited in public schools in the nine Western states under their jurisdiction. The panel ruled 2-1 on June 26, 2002, that the phrase "under God" violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." When the three-judge panel issued its ruling last year, many public figures expressed outrage. Gov. Gray Davis of California promised to take "decisive action to overturn this decision." The U.S. Senate voted 99-0 to oppose the change to the Pledge. U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft appealed the ruling to the whole Circuit Court, which declined to review the panel's ruling last Friday. After the most recent ruling, Ashcroft promised to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Bryant Gumbel recently interviewed Billy Graham's daughter Anne Graham Lotz who had just the right thing to say. Gumbel asked: “Why didn't God stop this [terrorism/destruction] or do something about this?” Anne Graham Lotz responded: “For years we have told God we didn't want Him in our schools. We didn't want Him in our government and we didn't want Him in our finances. God was being a perfect gentleman in doing just what we asked Him to do. We need to make up our minds - do we want God or do we not want Him. We cannot just ask Him in when disaster strikes.” Bryant Gumbel was silent.

This Nation actually started turning it's back on God in 1963 When the Court ordered a separation between Church and State. Which was unholy men's decision to be self ruled instead of allowing a holy people to governing a holy Nation. Now this Nation unless it turns back to God and quit allowing unborn Children to be put to death inside the womb, allowing men to marry other men and gay men to be ordained as priests defiling the Church, this Nation will face judgment just as Sodom and Gomorrah did and was destroyed.

Without God, everything would crumble. The only way this nation is going to be prosperous again is to place God ahead of us instead of behind us. Like Carman said, "We need God in America again"

How can you say that people are turning away from God? I just googled that and found that as of 3/07, 93% of people in the U.S. believe in God. So just because about 5% of the people don't believe in God, that means the nation is crumbling? I don't get your reasoning.

Prosperous and secure for whom?
For the blacks, native americans, single women and irish of the past?
Are you actually claiming that as a nation which subjugated blacks, murdered native americans, enforced slavery, denied women the right to vote, and lynched homosexuals that we were a nation "closer to God."
If that's true, I want no business with that god.
In fact, as we have become more secular, ALL Americans have been invited into the freedoms that were only once enjoyed by rich and propertied white married men. I, for one, think this nation is becoming richer in freedoms and security, not poorer.

Yes...and everyone wants to say that its society and culture of today's world, and not the fact that we are taking religion out of everything....hello! they coincide together, society is moving futher and further away from belief, and therefore its being taken out and therefore, society is crumbling. not hard to put two and two together, though I'm not surprised, the earth just coincidentally ended up in the right place in the universe, and cell just coincidentally stuck together to make living things, so it must just be a coincidence that as we take God out of everything our country moves further and further down the line.

Absolutely. We need to all get together and put a stop to it. We need to go by any means necessary to bring people back to a Christian lifestyle. Even if they don't believe in God, their life will be much better living by the basic standards. The world is going downhill fast.

Honoured god?? The USA was built and made powerful by capitalism not religion. What did the plantations, wars with the native americans and gold rushes etc have to do with religion?
