I'm not sure which medication you're on but if you're still getting GERD let your doctor know. Mine told me to take one of the alternate otc meds if I still get, which only occasionally I do.

Sometimes if I overdo the overeating with chocolate, etc I do have to take mylanta antacid.

Don't eat after 7 pm
Sleep with your top half elevated
Avoid spicy foods
Avoid eating too much, especially chocolate is the worse

There are great books out there, I would get one from the library or bookstore.

Good Luck

There are specific times when the stomach produces the most acid - one hour and three hours after eating.
You can anticipate this and take some antacid liquid or tablets at those times. Also take some before bedtime.
This will help keep things in better control without increasing prescription meds.
As far as the kinds of foods you eat - really doesn't matter.
But your doctor should check you for H. pylori - that is a bacteria some people have in their stomachs that contributes to ulcer disease and can be treated with specific antibiotics.
