This question was asked on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. According to the Jehovah's Witness publication "Examining the Scriptures Daily - 2007", the text for that date is:
[quote]
You must choose life in order that you may keep alive, you and your offspring.—Deut. 30:19.
[unquote]

Many or most Jehovah's Witnesses would consider this a sobering reminder that their actions can result in eternal life for both themselves and their children.

That fits the biblical pattern for God's judgments against antediluvian society and Sodom/Gomorrah. It was not merely wicked persons who perished, but all persons who failed to heed the prophetic warnings given by God's agents.

(Amos 3:7) For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets.

(2 Peter 2:5) Noah, a preacher of righteousness...

(Genesis 19:14) [Lot said] “Get up! Get out of this place, because Jehovah is bringing the city to ruin!” But in the eyes of his sons-in-law he seemed like a man who was joking.

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

Paul said it best : 'To get a firm hold on to the real life." To do this one must take in the knowledge from God, (John 17:3), and must obey Jehovah's commandments and bring your life in harmony with his righteous standard to get a firm hold on to the real life everlasting. Which the Iraealites had it all and still lost out by not look to Jehovah to strenghtem their faith and to keep them on the right path to life.

Today?

EDIT: Oh thanks, Achtung for clarifying which "today".

Deciding to serve Jehovah and following his laws results in everlasting life, and that is a good thing to remember when we face temptation or start to slow down.
