Why does moss only grow on one side of a tree?

And which side?, I know but just checking to see wants to answer.

Moss grows on the north side of trees, but ONLY in the middle latitudes of the northern hemisphere. It grows there because it gets less sun and moss likes shade. Moss will grow wherever there is less sun.
