Basically, The First World War was fought from trenches the military making or taking and holding small areas of ground measured in a couple of hundred meters for thousands of lives.

English Civil War was lots of men chasing each other all over the English Countryside, then bunching together hacking shooting, stabbing one another in fields, till one group broke off and ran, the winners then would rest and continue the chase.

my grandpaw arrived 'over there' in 1918 as a 23 year old marine.it was made up of a 700 mile long dmz called 'the front' and stretched from northwest france all the way down to the borders of italy and switzerland, it took the lives of millions and there was absolutely no rules of engagement or warfare, it was fought in a sililar fashion to a big battle of the american civil war battle in virginia, men in the trenches had to get used to stepping over skeletons of the dead, diseases rate was out of control like the hygiene was awfull, towards the end of the war on the 11th hour, the 11th day, of the 11th month, the flu pandemic struck down president wilson and the pandemic killed 50-100 million globally, with 50 thousand deaths in america, whole parts of belgium and france still have gown-over trenches to this very day

Strange question because you cannot compare apples with oranges,to make it simple:the English Civil War took place during the period of undivided armies(divided armies come into existense with the invention of the unit called 'division' by field marshal De Brogli in 1759)when the renouned generals many times imposed their will by their movements.
WW1 is characterised by trench warfare with main characteristic the lack of mobility(at least in the western front)
and the disregard for human life.
I fail to see any similarity.

Men fought, men died. Diferent weapons, but the same result. Blood, guts and gore.
