Just stay out of Compton and you should be fine.

You have a choice of Amtrak train and train and Thruway bus services. On one hand, there is the Coast Starlight, which travels the coast line of the former Southern Pacific Railroad that will take you all the way from Oakland to Los Angeles, where you would change if going on to San Diego. This is an ALL reserved train and frequently sells out during the summer months. An alternative is any one of the San Joaquin trains operating from Oakland to Bakersfield, with a connecting Thruway Bus to Los Angeles. Either way, you get the added bonus of being able to dine while you ride, relax in relative comfort, or even get some work done while riding.

It's actually quite a lot safer there than you know. Depending on where you live, it's probably safer. I lived in the Anaheim area for two and a half years and was frequently out late; I took public transportation. I am also a very small woman, and I never felt threatened.
The only thing you might watch out for is auto theft, but that's one of those things that if someone is dead set on doing it, it's going to happen no matter what you do.

I live here and I find it safe on the whole, but use your head. Don't be in a place that you would be vulnerable in at home. Stay in well frequented and will lit areas. Stay always aware of your surroundings.

It would help more if I knew if this was vacation or business travel. I just took a vacation by myself just to relax. My friend hosteled through Europe by herself. Like I said, don't get into situations that would get you in trouble at home. Always have a map and enough gas.

Orange County is probably safer than L.A., but stay smart and have fun!

Yes, but you should look up some reference on traveling. If you haven't traveled before especially by a plane. Because of all the crazy situations that have been happening these days, like with terrorist etc. Are you driving or riding a bus? Plane? Either way I would do some check ups on the company. Like other experience people have had with them. If you are a female. Check to see if they allow you carry pepper spray with you. There are perverts and mad people are there. Good luck on your travel~Cece~

I'm sorry. You are now required to have someone from Pennsylvania accompany you before you are allowed to enter Southern California.

I am available for a reasonable fee.

I've done it before and made it out alive.

Seriously though, yes, it's fine, especially around Disneyland, etc. Just use normal precautions, etc.
