My buddys dad is a Vietnam Veteran and just found out that he is a diabetic, well the medication that he is on is really expensive and hard for him to pay for, so he is currently part of a program that the VA (Veterans Hospital) offers that if qualified they get their medications at low cost or no cost at all and my buddy and i want to give back to this hospital in raising some money for them, any perticular steps we have to take or can we just get permission from certain businesses to set-up outside with a description of what were doing and what it is for and donate the proceeds to the Hopital, or like i said are their certain steps we have to take? Any and all info greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

What do you mean by their guidelines?

contact the VA first, they have a donations coordinator who can tell you the rules about fund raising for the hospital. also, if you want your proceeds to go to a specific department/application, like the free/low-cost medication, make sure to arrange for that to happen. then, if you are going to cold-cash fund raise, say outside of a supermarket, for example, ask for donations, make sure to get the managers/owners approval, and also make sure you follow the local laws governing this sort of event. congrats on doing the right thing, and good luck!!

EDIT-By guidelines, some charitable organizations will only accept funds in certain ways, or funds from certain things. Some won't take corporate funds, some will only take donor funds, nothing from fund raising, etc. Since rules can be complex, I would ask first. No sense wasting the hard work and money for nothing.

The best way to help vets is by volunteering and by getting others to volunteer, you might start a campaign to register volunteers during the holiday season to go and visit them or take meals to vet shutins, Good luck and God Bless!!

I would contact Hospital administration and see what their guidelines are.
