True, except in the case of the reindeer (or caribou), Rangifer tarandus, in which both sexes have antlers. Antlers are used by male deer for competing for mating rights, and are shed and regrown every year, getting larger each time. In the case of reindeer, the male sheds his antlers in late autumn, after the rut, whilst the female retains hers throughout the winter and sheds them after calving in spring. It is thought this adaptation arose so that females could gain access to the best feed during the winter, when they need to nourish their unborn calves. If they did not have antlers, or if the male retained his, the males, being larger and stronger, would drive the females from the best feed.

For $10 you will get cheap looking junk. You will need to pay a bit more to get something that will look decent. Take a look at www.cabelas.com or www.basspro.com. I don't know what Gander Mountain's website is but you can do a search. Also check Dick's Sporting goods & Wal-Mart.
