what determines if the couch is even worth re-upholstering is the bones of the couch. if it is a cheaply made sofa, it's not worth the fabric to reupholster.

It may be cost prohibitive. Ask for a quote from an upholsterer, and check out the price of a leather couch, and compare prices.

If the frame, springs, are quality still in fine condition, and you
like the style, Mainly if you like the style and can't replace it, is
usually the reason one reupholsters.
How would YOU do it, is a whole "nother story!---Are you apt.
Do you sew? like to, "Do it your selfer." etc. etc. Then research and go to it. If not forget it, and inquire cost from a
pro. and check prices of new retail, compare $$$$. good luck!
