I was going to grocery store & as I was approaching a parking spot, somebody from the opposite side was approaching it too, I was closer (not by alot) & proceeded to take the spot. I noticed it was an elderly couple as I was moving in, & the older man shook his head like I did something wrong. It would have been harder for me to back up anyways & I would have had to turn my whole car around and go to another spot. As he was just coming into parking area - he easily just had to go forward to another spot. I don't understand why he thought it was his spot when I was closer, or what made him think I had no right.

In my opinion, you did nothing wrong. The old man, of which I am one, was probably disappointed in having to find another parking spot, likely farther away from the store. It would have been courteous and thoughtful to let the elderly couple have the spot, but certainly not required.

It's possible he thought you were disrespecting elderly people and didn't care that they may have to look and walk farther. WHO KNOWS?

For me, if two cars are approaching from opposite directions at the same time, the one turning right to get it should have first right to it, but that's not always what happens.

I have had people come racing the wrong way down a one way isle and try to beat me out of a space that is rightfully mine (as I am going in the right DIRECTION)

The people who kill me are the ones who park in the beginning of an isle and think they own ANY spot that opens up anywhere in that isle......(wrong)

He might have been having a bad day. You never know what is going on in another person's life in that moment! He could have been hungry or perhaps didn't sleep well the night before!

I hope you didn't let it ruin your day too much! I know that I am very sensitive as well, and am often troubled by the reaction of others as well. I always have to stop, slow down and reflect for a moment. Then I can really think clearly about the situation.

No parking space is worth the hassle of making a claim for auto insurance. If you can get the space safely, then take it. If not, defer to the other driver.

I let the old and fat have the closer spots. That's why they stay old and fat. The truly disabled have their own.

Did he have his blinker on? If neither of you had your blinkers on then I consider it closest gets it.
