Both...depending on where you live. Most area's they are both sides if houses are on both sides. However, in rural areas where it may be relatively long distance between houses they will put them on one side of the road. This is so the mail truck only has to make one trip down the road.
i used to live in a very rural area and the street was three miles long and only had 6 houses on it.

Depends on what street you are on. I think in a lot of older neigborhoods it is on one side, but now people have it on their own property so they don't have to cross the street or talk to neigboors, so they put them on both sides

THEY ARE ALWAYS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE MAILMAN'S STEERING WHEEL IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
