IF AN EXTRACTION IS THE ONLY OPTION NOW AVAILABLE, THEN THIS TOOTH IS UNRESTORABLE FOR WHICH NO OTHER TREATMENT IS AVAILABLE.
I WOULD FIRST GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE EXTRACTING. IF THE TOOTH IS CRACKED, EXTRACTION IS THE ONLY OPTION.
ENDODONTIC RETREATMENTS ARE DONE BY ENDODONTISTS OFTEN.

No, that is not true. I had a root canal and still had pain in my tooth. They sent me to a endodontist who checked the original root canal. He basically redid it, because the first one was not done properly. He also found another root on the tooth and did a root canal on that. Some teeth have three and others four roots. After all that, the tooth was still bothering me and so they sent me to a oral surgeon who made an incision in my gums and cut the roots out. All that to save a lousy tooth. In the end, I got a jaw infection and pulled the tooth anyways. From beginning to end, I had a tooth ache for over two years.

I had one just last week, the dentist said if it didn't work he would have to take the tooth out,i had a infection that didn't clear up with antibiotics,so i guess I'm in the same boat as you.

If the infection has turned chronic and cannot be cleared up then the tooth has to go.
