My mom used to give me a Fleet Enema when i was little. Its $1 at the drugstore and works in 5 minutes, just gently insert in the butt and empty the liquid contents. Make him wait up to 5 minutes to use the bathroom, it works better. She also used to to give me a tablespoon of Castor Oil ($3.00 at the drug store). That worked but I don't remember how long it took, it worked the same day though. Oh and she used to give me a glass of prune juice first thing in the morning. That worked in 3 hours. Mom was big on bowel movements.

If he just hasn't gone for a day or two, try a suppository or prune juice and lots of water. If he is really backed up and just can't seem to push it out, a soap-suds enema works great. Just a drop of Palmolive in lukewarm water will produce a BM immediately when flushed gently into the rectum. A bulb syringe may be used and will need to be discarded afterwards.

Give him Colace (rectal suppository). You can purchase this over the counter in most stores. It should lubricate his intestines and help him go potty. Also give him a glass of prune juice, that should help loosen things up.
In the future, give him fiber rich foods or a fiber supplement like Metamucil, that will help things move along.

Suppositories - either a glycerin one (1 gram infant-size) or a sliver of soap lubricated and inserted all the way up the butt. Either one can be used regularly if need be, and either one will make him do a dooey in 5-20 minutes!

Try a suppository, sorry I think I spelled that wrong, but hopefully you understand what I mean. They work well without having to give them medicine. A pharmacy will be able to tell you how to use them. Good Luck.
