My engagement ring seems to be too big. When my fiancé proposed, it was a size 7 and it danced around my finger and would fall off. We got it resized to a 5 ½ because that’s the ring that fit me best on my ring finger at Kays. When I got it back it still seemed too big. I’ve had it for 6 months now. Sometimes when my fingers are swollen it seems to fit just right but other times, like right now, it feels like it is going to fall off. I feel bad for not wearing it sometimes for fear of loosing it due to the obvious value it has to me and the monetary value of it. I am also afraid that if I get it down to a five it will be too small when my fingers swell and I am really scared of having a ring stuck on my finger (childhood trauma)
What would you do????
Thanks!

Thanks to all!
I thought of taking it someplace else because Kays took too long, but for insurance purposes I understood that Kays wanted to do any and all repairs on it.

When your hands are swollen, does it fit perfectly? If so, then resizing is probably not what you want to go with. Try purchasing a ring guard and see if that works for you. They have those everywhere--even Walmart--in gold or white gold plated. You insert it on the inside of the ring and it is easily removable when your fingers swell.
However all 5 1/2s are not created equal. After all they are literally filing the gold off the end. So it may be a tad bit over 5 1/2. I wear a 5 1/4 on my left hand and I can tell a big difference when its half way between a 5 1/4 and a 5 1/2. My friend is a jeweler and she cuts rings off people's hands a lot--I can understand why thats a trauma. Plus you aren't going to wear it if its too tight uncomfortable either. When your hands are most swollen, get it sized then if it is still too big. However--check your weight. If you have recently lost weight due to wedding stress, don't get your ring resized.

I recommend a reputable jeweler, which can be a chain or a local place. I was in Kay Jewelers the other day and they said it would be $20-30 to resize a gold ring (for my mother). The price typically depends on how many sizes you are going up or down, as well as the metal type and style of the ring. I usually trust the place where I bought the ring to resize it, especially for warranty reasons. Read the warranty details carefully to see if this is a requirement, or if any jeweler can service the ring.

I am a jeweler and I would suggest that you go to Kays and explain your problem. Maybe you should first get a ring that is a size 5 and wear it around on your ring finger for a few days and see what happens. If that is a good fit for you then you will know. Your ring should be a little hard to get over your knuckles, but comfortable once it goes over.

I would take the ring to a fine jeweler, not that Kay isn't, but there are much much better craftsmen in the industry that can make your ring fit like you were born with it. Try Shane Co., Cartier, Tiffany, etc - even though the ring isn't from them, they are EXTREMELY skilled and talented and can at least point to you a well trusted, independent jeweler.

If you are going to get your wedding band attached to your engagement ring, it will fit more snug. I had the same problem with my ring. It was a tad too big before, but it works now.

If it feels to loose then it probably is. I lost my wedding ring because I had the mindset that my fingers were going to get fatter as I got older.

take it to a jewler and get their opion on what is the best size for you. They can also do quarter sizes. So you could get a 5 1/4 size ring. But i would ask a jewler what they suggest.

i had the same prob too. but i had it resized. i had it resized in the summer because thats when ur finger is swollen. when its cold, it shrinks. so in the winter, it sucks because it keeps swirling around my finger. so have it resized when its warm. then keep it there. it will never fit u perfectly because our fingers swell when its warm.

I would get it resized again...you don['t wait to take the chance of losing it, but be sure to not make it too small for those "women" swelling days! :)
