“And the daughter of any priest/pastor, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.” --- Leviticus 21:9

A priest/pastor's daughter, if found to have lost her virginity without marriage, can receive the death penalty, but in the form of incineration.

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. He that curseth his father, or his mother [A rebellious son/daughter], shall surely be put to death. –(Exodus 21:17)

Before you give me a thumbs down, read the answer all the way through.

I'm a Christian, but even I don't take everything written in the Bible literally. I do believe that a lot of the true Bible was lost along the years. Before the printing press, Bibles were copied by hand. What was to stop any of the "copiers" from changing the original text and adding their own two cents?

Well, first of all, you should understand all punishments in the Torah are a maximum punishment. Not a minimum.

There was never a case of a stubborn and rebellious son that was killed. That is to teach us a lesson. In the same way a parent would not kill their child no matter what, G-d will be very reluctant to kill us. It was put in terms we can relate to.

Death penalties were VERY rare. They occurred about once every 70 years or so.

These scriptures are misinterpreted by many non-believers and skeptics as hateful and "ungod-like". Actually it is very god-like for Him to punish people for their sin. Obvsiously the women in those passages slept around way too much, and they deserved what they got. These days, whores, hookers, sluts, or whatever you want to call them don't actually get stoned to death but they do get punished for their sin one way or another. Times change, consequences for sins change. But God himself NEVER changes, He still hates sin as much as He always has. I'm sure Jack the Ripper was a Christian who completely took these scriptures the wrong way, and became a monster as a result.

various fertility/sex gods and their temple practices of the many peoples around the culture during that time frame...


that was not a practice wanted or allowed within Israel...





cultural traditions of the times, the son (s) where part of the family business, took care of the family...compare it to present day embezzlement of funds and leaving the family to catch the heat for it...$$ owed the family can be sold in to slavery to settle the debt,,,,
