The bus ride requires a transfer to another bus. Takes about 20 minutes in total and then walking for five minutes to our house. Is it safe for a nine year old who just moved to this country to do that alone?

i wouldn't let my 9 year old ride the bus alone. Sounds scary what if he don't know where to get off or misses his stop or gets the wrong transfer bus. I would have a heart attack waiting of him.

NO!

Toronto may not be NYC or LA, but still, it's not safe for a 9 year old! I think my cousins that live there started taking public in high school, so 14, but never alone. There was always at least 3 or 4 kids travelling together.

I live in Calgary, AB and would not let my child ride the bus here by themselves until they are at least 12. My stepson is 8 and he has such a limited memory (so frustrating, but seems to be common in boys) and I would worry that he would not pay attention to, or remember his stop and end up somewhere unsafe. Riding with friends is worse I think ... seems like the more kids there are together on the bus the worse their behaviour is. It's not up to the bus driver and other passengers to discipline kids!

quite some bus employer's will in basic terms enable fold up bicycles on their buses, yet definite i'd enable a 13 year previous trip on a bus for 10 minutes in the event that they comprehend precisely the place they'd desire to get on and rancid, and it replaced right into a secure area. And Jeff, heavily, if a criminal is on the bus? Is the toddler going to be much less secure at 13 than at sixteen?

A resounding NO!!!! I live in Toronto and while it is relatively safe, I would never allow a 9 year old to take public transit on his own....not until he is in high school in my opinion especially with having to transfer buses.

if it where my kid no it is not safe to transfer on a bus by themself. I would not let my kid do that untill at least age 15. If they didnt have to transfer buses and the bus dropped him right at your door then i would say that it would be ok when he was 11 to ride all by himself.
