There are Sunni Muslims, which i am. that just means we are Muslims that follow the example of the prophet. some Muslims don't even like to label as Sunni, because the prophet just called himself Muslim, nothing more. but we say Sunni because we follow the sunnah.

There are Shia Muslims, they are a small minority of Muslim, mostly Iranian.

There are Sullafi Muslim and i don't know too much about them except that they wear their pants above their ankles, they believe the man that wears his pants to the ground will go to hell or something. This sect is mostly black americans and they are predominately based in Philadelphia.

There are Suffi Muslim, and they are more into what they believe the mystical teachings of Islam

There's the Nation of Islam, and they are more so a black power movement than anything else...

I'm sure there are many more, those are just what i know. as far as i know, every sect still believes that Allah is the one true God and that Muhammad was his final messenger. The ideologies after that differ some though...

In Islam, actually, should not be any difference.Initially,during the periods of all Khalifas including Ali ibn Talib, there was no division. The division was started based on the political and spiritual discussions. sub sects based on minor physical methods of prayer.All believe in One God and Prophet
Mohammed. Here, There is no place for dissension, hatred or misunderstanding. Its a combination and no confusion. You can shift to any subsect, but remember of all only one is acceptable, for realizing Allah, that is Path Of Prophets.
Who will teach you the Path of Prophet is the hidden fact in Islam.

There are always sects and denominations around faith based belief systems. This is the way and has always been the way throughout human history.

The reason they exist is because it is all very subjective, and not at all based on measurable truths or calculable theory.

We are all different, so when something as subjective as faith becomes necessary for belief, differences in opinion will always arise.

Leprechauns require faith for belief, and as a result, some people think they are good beings and some people think they are bad. We can all see rainbows so, believers in Leprechauns can point at them as evidence.

The same applies to Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Paganism, etc.....

There are NO SECTS in Islam. All the groups believe in exactly the same Fundamentals of Faith ( arakan e Imaan ) Political and tribal rivalries of remote past have made some varying groups on differences in minor theological details, but never on fundamentals.

I wonder why are you so curious. Anyways, Our PROPHET MUHAMMAD(P.B.U.H) gave us the prophecy that by the time this world comes to an end, there will be 73 sects in muslims out of which only one will be the one on the right path. HE(P.B.U.H) also specified that the sect which follows HIM(P.B.U.H), HIS KIN(R.A), HIS COMPANIONS(R.A) will be the right one. So in my opinion those who deny HADITH OR PROPHET'S KIN(R.A), HIS COMPANIONS(R.A) are in great deviation. May ALLAH bless all the muslims to follow the right path and also bless the nonmuslims to rectify their misconceptions about ISLAM, AAMEEN!

Every Muslim believes in their creed.

One God and Mohammed is the last Prophet.

Any other difference is moot.

that public stonings are condoned
that suicide bombers are martyrs
that you can marry 9 NINE year old girls, because Mohammed did.
some Moslems believe the above, other than that I think they are in agreement.
