Great question. You are exactly right.
And for Christians who point to the life and actions of Joseph Smith, have you ever looked into the lives of the men who Canonized the NT? They are just as bad, if not worse.

Religious belief is more a matter of feeling, not knowledge or evidence. If you have found something to believe in, it doesn't matter to you whether there is evidence to support it or not and it doesn't matter if you agree with whatever evidence there is available. You believe because something inside you, that can't be explained, makes you believe. That is what having faith is about.
Christians use the Testament as a basis of their belief and will strive to discredit any other source of "evidence".
People who follow the Book of Mormon are Mormons, not Christians.
I am an Atheist myself, but i reviewed many religions before I decided that being an Atheist was right for me.

That's a really good question! As for me, I know there is no proof of anything in the Bible, I choose to believe in it anyway, because there is also no proof God doesn't exist. Onto the Mormon Bible....it is comprised of selected texts from the King James bible with a little bit of fun extra personal beliefs of the man who wrote it (John Smith??) thrown in. He claimed to be able to read the "original" version, which was in a foreign language, with special glasses. When asked to produce the glasses, they were no longer there. What a coincidence. I believe I got the generalization of that story right. Correct me if I'm wrong; I will look it up some time.
Oh--I"m not Christian...I'm Messianic Jewish.

they could't. lots of them will factor to the undesirable issues in this international, issues happenning to stable human beings and say "see, if there become a God, he would not permit that happen could he?" My answer to that's: for my section, God would not make stable or undesirable issues come our way - we've the liberty of determination that oftentimes places us in a bad place... God helps us to pass in the time of the difficult circumstances so as that we are going to call out to him. If issues have been continuously stable, who could call out to their Father for help? the final analysis right this is faith. i could rather stay an confident life believing there is extra, that i'm right here for a objective and that God has a plan for each human beings than to stay the life of an atheistic, self-serving, pessimist who thinks they could desire to get all they could in life, cuz this is the ideal curtain! My final analysis - no possible convience me that God isn't actual. i do no longer see Him precise now - yet do they see the electrical powered currents that furnish light fixtures of their residences? in the event that they simply have faith in what they see, they could desire to no longer activate their gentle switches to work out if there is gentle... have they stop respiration? Do they see the oxygen interior the air, or believe that that's there? Who can look at a new child infant and say that youngster become born by making use of twist of destiny, an twist of way forward for the universe? What approximately while the fantastic happens? believe your coronary heart.... stay an occasion and in line with possibility, sometime, those atheists around you will ask you - "how do you handle those difficult circumstances and be waiting to maintain it jointly?" The door would be open - then it's time to instruct the sunshine on! In Christ's love, KP

PP- that's a darn good question....
Sounds like a double-standard to me... They validate their own religion and belief by claiming "faith," but don't accept that same claim from others....
Interesting point.
Edit-
Dragonfirelady- although I disagree with your definition of a Christian (as pertaining to Mormons), I appreciate your definition of faith- I like it- it's a very accurate explanation of what faith really is- it truly is something inside that can't really be explained.

I understand the contradiction in terms but I am a Christian and would never make such a statement.
Faith does not mean an absence of evidence.

Here's the way it works. When you get in your car, what do you need to do to start your car? A key, right? okay, so basically it takes your faith in believing that your car is going to start everytime you turn the key. If the car doesn't start, something is wrong with the engine. That is your evidence.

you may have a bit of a contradiction going there for yourself. Most people believe that the book of Mormon is false because it stands as a contradiction to the bible ( the very script it claims to have origins in.) Belief in the Bible and its prophesy has to come with the knowledge that it is the perfect word of God. Joseph Smith claimed that the Bible was Imperfect so he sat out to correct it. In his book " The Bible Corrected by Joseph Smith. "
