I agree 100% ! Chefs can’t write authoritative books on zoology .
However ... you have not explained why Christians write books on Faith and Religion – They don’t know anything about it and it only makes them look dumber than the guys who know the real reasons why people believe and why people have faith.
Christian authors look even dumber than the Guys who have the evidence and even more dumber than the guys who can reason things out.
I view Atheists as nutritionists , they can tell you what is good for your Heart and good for your Health , but you can’t blame Atheists for the bland taste – it is up to you to add spice to life.

If a chef studied zoology (and was perhaps formerly a zoologist), why would it be wrong of them to write a book on the subject?
If you are a theist why do you write questions directed at atheists? You don't know anything about them and it makes you sound dumber than those of us who know the truth.

1) Atheists are unbiased and can write about multiple religions because they have an outsiders perspective.
2) Most atheists....started out religious, examined their faith and evidence in the world, and then changed their opinion about their religion and then all others being true.
3) Religion is one of the hottest-discussed topics in the WORLD. In the news, in books, in magazines, on the street, conversing with co-workers. Atheists are constantly surrounded by people of various degrees of faith and belief systems. So it's not like they're clueless.
4) Instead of turning a blind eye to what they "don't understand", many atheists SPECIFICALLY research religion to gain more unbiased knowledge of it. Thus you see some atheists knowing more about the bible than some christians, etc.

Most educated atheists have studied thoroughly all different religions, that is partially the reason they become atheists is because they have learned about each religion and understand they are all seiously flawed. For example, look at most religion professors at major universities (not private religious school obviously) most of those doctors are extremely intelligent in their subject but chose to be atheist. Perhaps you simply have a different view because you have blind faith toward your religion which many educated people lose during their studies.

I haven't noticed any atheists writing books that are pro-religion, sweetheart. They have plenty of room to write books that point out the many, many, staggeringly abundant failings of religion because most of them used to be religious but are no longer. Those of us who went from religious to non-religious have an awful lot of understanding about the failure of religion and are perfectly qualified to write books on how miserably stupid religion is.
If you don't like the atheists' books, then by all means don't read them. More copies to go around for smart people.

Why would you say an Atheist knows nothing about religion? A good number of us have studied the bible to great length.
Broad generalizations make people sound dumber.

Most athiest writers with a basis in evolutionary biology understand far more about the Bible than most so-called believers who pick out the bits that suit them. They can also write from an angle of common sense, and not the mythology and superstition which is the bedrock of the Christian faith.

Well I guess no one at all can write a book about any mythology then.
You do realize that Christians overwhelmingly have never read their own Bible and really don't actually have an understanding of what it is that they claim to believe: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/01/AR2007030102073.html
I would love to see a similar survey of atheists. Most of us have at least bothered to READ the Bible.

Point out which books on religion, espousing religion, have been written by atheists. Truly, I'd love to see this.
BTW? MOST Atheists WERE devout religious folks at one point. If you know what you're talking about, then you can write about it. Simple as that.
Do YOU know what you're talking about?
