My stereo stopped working?

This is a stock Chrysler Infinity stereo in a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was working fine until I changed the battery in the vehicle. After I changed it, the stereo would play, but I could not change any stations or adjust the volume, or even turn it off. So I turned off the vehicle and restarted it, now the stereo does not play or display the time. But all the buttons light up when I turn on my headlights. I can also hear a very faint hiss from the speakers. Is there some sort of security thing that effects the stereo when the battery is changed? What could be wrong? I'm quite certain that changing the battery is what caused the problem.

It started working on it's own after 2 days.

Check your fuse box. There could have been a small power surge after hooking up your new battery simply blowing a fuse or two.

If the fuses seem fine then don't sweat it. Its now time to treat yourself to a new stereo with aux inputs/usb ports and sat stereo. After all it is a 12 yr old stereo.

You may have fried a component when you changed the battery but I don't think so. Do you have knobs that turn or electronic volume controls (Push buttons)? Since you're getting a hiss from the speakers I'm assuming the radio is not getting a signal but is in some way working. Make sure there is a solid connection from the antenna to the radio.
